Ok, I've heard of port and polish and don't automatically just tell me "search", LOL cuz I have and my answer hasn't been answered, what EXACTLY is it, I mean I hear it gives you more power and it's a good mod but how much does it cost, what all do you need to know do you just goto a shop and be like hey port and polish my car or do you have to specify certain things?, I've heard people porting out their TB can't you just buy a bigger one, please help any info is welcome and I know I'm new and this is dumb but please don't give me crap. thanks

the thing with the TB, getting a bigger one gets complicated because of hte coolant lines and on some cars the ECU gets screwey. porting is a good way to get more power with out changing anything drastic. this at least how it pertains to galants

So, you pretty much tell them how much money you wanan spend and they'll do as much porting and polishing for that money??? how much HP could you add or does that depend on how uch you get ported?

You can get a throttle body ported for $50-150
You can get an intake manifold ported & polished for $100-300
And for your head being ported & polished you will need an estimate as different shops vary with their prices.

Porting & Polishing is a great way to create hp. Our intake manifold is the most restrictive part on our cars (thanks jayden :p ) and p&p it will make the runners smooth.

Just with your other question about cams, hp depends on supporting mods. Think about it everything works in conjuction together. If you have completly stock head (intake side) and a p&p intake manifold, you will obviously not be getting as much power as you can.

i ported and polished my jeep tb to 60 mm,but i'm not brave enough to do that to mi intake manifold.I've seen inside there and it's got some weird shapes in there.when our im gets ported,do they por the chamber and the runners as well or only the runners?

That depends on the quality of the port really.

I am getting this guy to port&polish my complete intake mani for $100

miamieclipse- who's porting your IM for $100!?, and is he any good?gimme tha hook up :D .I mean is he any good?cuz I don't wanna hand my IM to any chum with a die grinder ya know, cuzz Im one of those chums tooLOL

LOL. Any chum with a die grinder... I sent mine out to get done. They didn't touch it for 3 weeks. I got so sick of it, and wanted my car back together I just took it back. I looked at it, and said "hey, this shouldn't be too hard." I went to Sear's and boutght a really good carbite bit. I sat in my garage for 8 hours, just grinding away. I think it turned out really good. I showed a couple friends and they we're impressed. Its not that hard to do it yourself, but you just got to be brave. I noticed AWESOME gains from it. BTW, I just ported my IM, not my head. I wouldn't suggest trying it on your head, but if your brave go for it. I guess this chum got lucky. Just make sure if you do it, to CLEAN it out really good. You don't want those little flakes of alluminum getting in the combustion chamber.

It's a friend of Lawdaman aka Phillip. He is doing his intake mani as well. If you want the number PM me.

By the way, where in miami are you?

heres mine. got a local dealer for HRC. he does a real good job and at a fair price. pm me :thumb:

Miamieclipse, Ilive in Miami too, west kendall. I would love to find out if that guy would work out a deal with myself too.

I'm in miami lakes. Not too far considering everything here is about 20 miles/minutes away  .

Yes you can Port your stock tb (There is a porting service on ebay for $50 i beleive)
Yes you can port&polish your stock intake manifold (the most restrictive piece on our cars)

If you want to get anything ported, I would highly suggest Eddy Fierro at www.fierroracing.com He can do your intake mani for $75 I believe, lower and upper ported to match at least a 57mm TB (60mm requires additional material welded to the neck of the intake mani behind the TB mount.).

This is my lower intake mani before:

This is my lower intake mani after:

I've got several pictures hosted in another forum which thumbnails them for those with slower connections. You can see them at this link:

I'd post them, but I don't want to swamp this thread with them. Very large pictures with good detail of the type of work you can expect from Eddy. You can also expect to have someone more interested in getting you what you really need and not just out to sell you a "bigger is better" port job.

Is it better to P&P your stock pieces or just buy new ones? ? ? Doesnt anyone on DSMTUNERS live on the Northwest??

depends. I would rather p&p my stock intake manifold fully then buy an obx intake manifold off ebay.....sure it won't be as shiny but who will be quicker by far?

So P&P your stock parts will give you more power from it? I could care less how shiny it is.... i just want the power :dsm:

yup should be a pretty nice gain. I hear in conjuction with a nice 55mm tb its a net of 13whp gain

My buddy has a Neon RT, pretty much the same motor. He was running 12.5:1 compression and had a bunch of other internal work. He pulled a 13.7 on slicks on the track, pump gas. He pulled a 14.1 on street tires and pump gas. He's building a 2.4 NA beast of a motor right now. 13.5:1 compression, crane 22 or 24 cams, forged crank, its crazy. He's a crazy all motor guy. NA is sweet, but stuff breaks a lot.
