Ok im driving my brothers 91 gst, and one head light is up at all times, when it gets dark and i turn on the headlights the one thats up goes down an the other goes up but both lamps are lite. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before, i searched n didnt see anything. its annoying as hell because i had to take out the relay so i could manually open the pop ups so they both shine on the road. any input would be great thanks! PS im trying to get it fixed by monday (i have his car for the weekend)

Try manuelly putting the stuck light down, than operate the lights. This fixed mine when I had that problem. And make sure its plugged in:thumb:

i have, but it just goes back to wut it was doing, im completely lost, they both get power an move but they move up n down opposite of eachother so only ones up at a time

I can't remember what the solution was but think that the motors get out of sync. There are contacts in the motor mechanism actuated by a cam. It may be that the actuating lever or link has to be popped off of both, cycle the headlight switch and reattach the link. My son had this but sold the car before I had a chance to really get involved in the fix. Do check all fuses related to the involved circuits. It's a PIA but do check the schematics for this circuit.

Cheers,
GTM

They are just out if sync. Unplug one of the motors and hit the pop up button. This will either close one or open the other depending on which one you unplugged. Now that they are both opened/closed, plug in the motor again.

I just tried the unplugging and toggling the head light push button, didnt fix it but caused another problem, the lights no longer pop up when the lights are turned on nor do they go down, so again the problem being the lights pop opposite of each other and now the pop ups dont move they just stay in the up position (put one up manually) and dont move unless i push the button on the side of the dash, then they move opposite of each other. anyone else have any ideas, im starting to get pissed off and im considering telling my brother to do a 1gb swap for the head lights. thanks for the replies and please help if possible thanks

As I recall the shop manual has a pretty decent troubleshooting guide for the headlights. It's not an easy circuit to understand and I doubt anyone can walk you through it from memory. It might take me 2-3 hours to sort out the schematics and then tell you where to put a test light. You could try drawing the circuit out so you know when and how.

What I'm saying is the current approach isn't working. Rather than taking a hammer to it, try something different such as breaking you testing into segments rather than maybe bouncing from one thing to another then forgetting what you tested previously. You have power and grounds which all must cooperate at the right time. I think you have a bad relay or the motor contact circuit has lost a ground and is feeding power to ground through the motor on the opposite side. Thus it's just swapping paths to ground which leads me to the relay(s) ground. Duh... what did he say. :)

Cheers,
GTM
