Ok so i recently had a 60k done on my car, as well as installing a buschur racing head gasket and arp head studs, and the car ran great :thumb: ... for about 200 miles  . then it decided to through a po170 cel. took it to the local mechanic, and he said it was my "vane air flow senor" or what looks like a remanufactured maf sensor. well the car ran fine, but 100 miles later it through the same code. The scanner showed that the fuel compensation value in bank one exceeds the specified range. What can cause this to occur? If i wasn't getting proper spark in cylinder 1 could that cause this? Thanks

i ran a search on reasons why i could be throwing the code, and saw that an exhaust manifold leak or crack can cause this code to be thrown.Well... I remember when I first got the car back, i saw some sizzling and smoke coming from where cylinder #1 meets the exhaust manifold. Also i went and changed my plug wires because they were looking like they were never replaced when the 60k service was done (would have done it myself, but the car came with a warranty), i reset the code, and its been 100 or so miles, and no code. But i'm still going to check. sorry for such a long reply

many things it could be...but with my car it was the upstream O2 sensor, once i replaced that...it ran like a bat out of _______ well..you know what... :thumb: If I were you, I would start there. I bet the bank thats probably your problem. Although, others may have different observation on that route, it sure worked for me...

well i think i just figured it out. When i had the new timing belt installed the guy who put it on had it a few degrees off... so my idle has been really !@@#$%. I took it to my one friend who's a mitsu techy, he says thats killing my power and gas milage (200 to the tank). Hopefully i can get this all straightened out, and start beating a few more turbo civics si's. -will keep posted.

Well just talked to the shop today, they claim that bank 1's o2 sensor is bad... funny thing i just had it tested. The technician who tested it claims that his scanner wasn't indicating what the problem was, and he couldn't find anthing. The other guy who worked on my car checked out the o2 and said that it was bad. ...ok....wtf. So i ask both mechanics how the tested it, the first said he tested it with an Ohm meter, while the second claimed he hooked it up to a scanner and monitored its response over different rmp's. Anyways... i'm ready to have my car back.... i've been driving the g/f cavalier....

Wow, that's alot of hassle for a P0170. I just use my logger to get rid of the code, and don't worry about it until it comes back. Hasn't came back since I started tuning the car though.

i replaced the upstream o2 sensor and maf, now about 100 miles later it throw the code again.... i was talking to another local dsmer and he was showing me sum stuff on his car. he pionted out that he removed his stock fpr, the little black contraption in the drivers side upper corner. I accidentally turned it while installing my boost gauge... could that have anything to do with it, and if so, how do i fix it?

sorry...didn't notice that you had already replaced it...if your planning on any more modding of your car...you could replace it with an aftermarket one. but i really don't see that as being something that could cause you problems, but possibly :|

Ahh, good old P0170.

I remember that problem when I first installed my AFC years ago.
Do you have an AFC?
P0170 is basically telling you something is messed up with your fuel trims.
This can be caused by... dirty air filters, a malfuntioning MAF, dying o2 sensor, etc.
How long have you had the K&N in the car? Have you cleaned it?
I would recommend twice a year to re-oil it myself... or at least once a year.
