Ok here's my problem. I just finished installing my friends 14b from his 93 gsx into my talon. I'm leaking coolant and oil but that's not my major problem right now. I went to go and take my car for a test drive and it seemed a little sluggish and when I would get upwards of 3500rpms the car just dies  . I've never had this problem before. The vaccum bounces around at idle. also i broke off a manifold stud during the install and i haven't had time to get it out, but all the other bolts are torqed to factory specs, do u think this might pose a problem later on?

Just finished fixing my oil and coolant leak :) Started the car up and it idled where it normally does- 12-1300rpms vaccum read about 15-16 hg. Went and took it for a drive and as soon as i got past 3000 rpms the car started jolting and the rpms dropped down to 2-300 and the car wanted to die. took it home and let it idle and it still wanted to die on me WTF . Any help would be very much appreciated. Still haven't had time to do a boost leak test :(

A boost leak test would be the first place to start. If you dont have the parts handy to do the leak test right now, go over all the piping and see if you find a loose connection. If not, get the parts for a leak tester tommorrow and find the problem.

anyone know the link for the website where you can buy a boost leak tester online???

Ok so I checked all my hoses and tightened all the connections. I also decided to pull my plugs and there was ALOT of carbon build up on them so I went and got new ones and they came gapped to .32. long story short I still have the same problem. do you think that gap might be to big and the spark is being blown out? this problem is really starting to fustrate me

travis :talon:

OK, 92awddsm and I have given you links to the page on how to make a boost leak tester.. have you done this yet? tightenning all your connections doesn't do the same thing.

If you don't even feel comfortable making your own leak tester via links given then you shouldn't be working on your car period. I suggest taking it to a trusted shop.

Theres gotta be a huge boost leak somewhere....

Also, why are you idleing so high? Idle around 800 is plenty. I was pulling 17 in/hg at idle on a 2g at 800 rpm. You should be seeing around 15 or so at 700-800 rpm imo.

ok i got the boost leak tester put together today, and I'm going to check for the boost leak I know I have, but first I'm gunna need to figure out why the thing won't even start now. It started fine earlier today and i went to take it around the block and the thing just shut down but usually it will start right back up but now it won't even crank at all, I can only hear the starter turning.

boost leak found. the j-pipe that connects to the compressor wasn't seating flat so I took it off repositioned it and sealed it up with some rtv and now it spools up to about 14 psi at around 3500 rpms.
