i have a late Nov. 95 gsx i think it consider to be a 96; here's my problem. I have a blown tranny and in desperate need of a replacement, however i was told that there is not a JDM tranny that will work with my yr model. what are my alternatives since i heard that a jdm tranny is so much better then the usdm tranny. also i live in so-cal so if there's a recommended place for me to take my gsx to please direct me or give me info on how to PROPERLY fix my problem for i am quite poor being a student and all. much appreciations to all helps :thumb:

thanx for the help. but i cant afford a 2grand tranny i was looking for like more of a replacement tranny not a race prep. and also i know from previous owner that he was already having problem with the tranny but never got it fix so then the tranny went out. and from the way he xplained it to me he doesnt knw much about cars anyways. but shepracing sounds realy good however i need my car running asap while i save up more for a better tranny or perhaps have shep rebuilt my tranny.

I think TRE does standard rebuilds for around $500ish, and you can get a nicely built tranny for well under $2k from him.

Turnaround is a different story though, when you are shipping out a tranny to be custom built, there will be time involved.

Maybe you could start looking around for a temp tranny to use while you get yours built. Then when you have the built one back, you could sell your spare. Working DSM trannys usually sell pretty well.

If you're worried about cost and turnaround time there is an easy solution I used. Take your tranny to a local shop to find out what is broken. Order parts from TRE or Shep (if he'll do it, I know TRE does) and have the local mechanic do the work. It'll be faster and you can go to your local mechanic for diagnostic/repair if anything goes wrong. It cost me $600-700 to have my tranny rebuilt with TRE synchros and non-reusables kit (includes stronger magnets). It shifts like a champ now. :thumb:

awesome i think that is what i was thinking of doing. but is it true that there is no jdm tranny for my yr model?

To my knowledge any awd tranny from an awd 23 spline DSM or GVR4 will work in your car. There should be JDM versions available but they won't be of any real advantage unless you get the rare switchable tranny and t-case. There is one out there that you can pull a couple bolts on and change it to FWD instead of AWD for dynoing or long trips where you want to save gas. I don't know how much it costs or how hard it is to find. Either way, it'll still be used.

so my only option is to either rebuilt or a race tranny...crapper either one i cant get my hands on around my area. but thnx for all the info. also can some one clarify me on the part where a jdm tranny will lock up on me? i heard something the gear ratios are different therefore causes lock ups problem on usdm gsx's. thanx for all the helps guys
