Hey thanks for checking out my question, I'm just looking for a quick opinion of these pistons. :D

Number 1 piston is the worst for huge gashes but number 2 is the worst for the 'peppering' effect. Number 4 was untouched.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the compressor wheel came apart. The shop that rebuilt the turbo charged around $700 (I know, I could have bought a nice huge turbo with that money, but we needed get back home ASAP) so for that kind of money, they probably replaced at least the compressor wheel so I don't know what it looked like.

Here's is no. 2 before I cleaned it up:

Here they are cleaned up and in order 1->3:

And here is no. 2 cleaned up showing the 'peppering':

Here is the compressor/turbine wheel, this is after the shop rebuilt it (500 miles):

I'm hoping the turbo would be the only probable thing to cause this, because I don't want to find out the hard way it was something else.....

Has anyone had an intercooler do that to a set of pistons? FYI the IC held 30 psi by itself when I tested it the other day.

Do the piston tops look detonated? I need to know asap because if they do, my machine shop will probably blame me for the cracked rod they found. Explain:

I took in the rotating assembly and for a month these dorks had my stuff. They called me telling me the rod bushings were worn on the EAGLE RODS. So I said give me a measurement and I'll get them made from Crower. They gave me the measurements and I got them ordered. After getting the new, they call me telling me the new bushings are too loose. So I paid to have MORE bushings made. After the second set of bushings, they actually got them squared away and done. WELL I went to pick up everything and saw ONE of my rods was very blue around the pin bushing area and when I looked closer, I SAW A HAIRLINE CRACK! :banghead: It looked like they were pressed in crooked or the press fit was too extreme. They were not cracked or blued when I inspected them before bringing them in. Less than 10K. No stupid amount of power (<300hp).

This shop is really worrying me can someone give me an idea of how I should approach this? I know you need to heat them for press fit but, on another thread when someone got the rod that hot to be blued, they decided not to use them. They have seemed shady (or maybe not) but they might blame it on the engine condition if the pistons look detonated. I get the feeling they just don't like my 4 cylinder.

I *thought* I had no counts of detonation because when I bought the car, EMS was actually set to take off 1d of timing and lots of fuel was added across the board.

New updated information above, I thought it would bump the thread if I edited the original but that's not the case and now I know. Anyway PLEASE READ ABOVE POST 5!!! SHOP IS KILLING ME!!

Like stated above, those "peppered" marks are more then likely compressor wheel ingestion, not detonation. If your rods cracked from them pressing the "tighter" bearing in there...well thats their doing they measuees twice.

Sounds like when they pressed in the bushings that they heated up the rod to hot . detonation causes pistons to melt not dents. sound like they screwed up and your gonna be footing the bill. just an fyi

Ok thanks everyone. They actually said they'd pay for the rod because it went through at least 3 people unnoticed for the month they had my rods. I really don't think the rod was broken before I brought it in though because I never heard of an eagle rod breaking here on tuners. The timing and fuel maps were also very conservative and the rods were no more than 10k miles.

Eagle normally has a good reputation for their rods but has anyone ever heard of one of them breaking like that? I hope to have a picture here soon once I get to town and pick up the parts.
