Just need a bit of help since I'm not too familiar with flywheels, but I purchased ACT flywheel for my 7 bolt and member was nice and explained everything to me. It was used for 1k miles on stock t25. Well anyways when I received it, my uncle said the heat spots are no good. :confused:

I took pics, can you guys confirm that this flywheel is in good condition for only 1k miles? Don't want to install if it is crap! Thanks.

I'd run it.
I agree though that it does have a few heat marks for just doing a 1000mile clutch break-in. Just go get it resurfaced and install it. Some might say it won't need resurfacing but I'd play it safe and just do it anyways. Drivetrain problems are too much of a headache to skip such an easy step.
 
Looks ok... You're always going to get heat spots on a performance car that's been driven aggressivly. Just make sure the step height is correct @ .610 and you should be good to go. Also look for cracks. If you want take some sandpaper and block sand the surface to get rid of any glaze that may be on the surface. If you're paranoid go to O'Reilly's and have them resurface it for you.

Also, when you install your trans make sure to shim your clutch pivot ball. Aftermarket parts change the geometry of the throw that is needed to disengage your clutch. I don't want to see a thread on here in a week after you get it together saying "Clutch engages just off the floor." It's simple and here's the information on how to do it: TRE TECH TIPS

I did use 2000grit sandpaper to clean it before I took pics. By the way I have to shim pivot ball even when I bought oem one? I will be installing this flywheel with centerforce dual friction clutch, oem tob, oem fork, and the oem pivot ball.

Is resurfacing expensive? I will have to properly step it as well, hopefully it isnt too expensive, I hear centerforce clutches have to be stepped to its exact spec, so I will step the flywheel.
 
I would at least check it to make sure that the clutch fork is centered inside the opening like in the picture on that link. If it's in the center you're good. If it's towards the passenger's side then you need to add shims (crush washers work good). If you don't check it and the clutch engages on the floor then you'll have to pull the trans out again to shim it up.

I think O'Reilly's will resurface it for around 40-50 bucks. But I wouldn't worry about it. Inspect it for cracks and throw it on there.

heat spot are not really a problem, the problem is when you got wave in the flywheel surface.
 
Looks good to me too! Mine is in worse shape then that and im still running low 12s with no problem.

What do you mean by wave? Ill also take it to machine shop, just have to find a good place around here.

Also it feels smooth as a feather LOL don't know how else to put it.
 
Have it surfaced buy a machine shop that trues (Ask them if they have) there blades often or always uses new bits and knows how to machine a stepped flywheel I couldn't tell you how bad it is without looking at it in person but that looks like some serious heat spots to me...
 
I've ran wayyy worse with alot of power and never had issues. Although the proper way to do it would be to resurface it, I personally wouldn't worry about it, it's not that bad at all.
 
Everyone keeps sayin' they have ran worse,but how well did it shift a 7-8k...Just because you've ran it Fubar'd doesn't make it a good Idea...I've ran one worse but it was like that because I abused the $hit out of it and when I pulled it there is now way I would just keep running it...
Jm just take a strait edge and a feeler gauge and see if theres any warpage ... but you don't want those hot spots even if its completely true...

by wave i means warpage.... things that could get your flywheel getting worse is that you can easily mesure step variation in the flywheel surface... i mean if the thing is in between .004 .002 inch from what it is supposed to be... nothing's wrong with it
tahts just normal wear that should be appear very soon. A clutch system will always slip a little without let you feel it while you are driving. And the result in it is little warp on the flywheel surface , clutch disk and pressure plate. This flywheel is very near as new. drop it in it and you will never see any sign of a bad swap between this one and your old one
 
I wouldn't run it. We don't have eyes like super man who can see wear with the naked eye. I'd spend the 20-30 dollars to go get it turned; it's better to be safe than sorry YO!

we don't need to have superman eyes to read some caliper mesurement. a few mesure all around the surface will show you if its warped or not. thats whats the machine shop guy will do anyway. he will not call superman to ask him if he should turn the flywheel or not, he will mesure it with a caliper
