Piston Choice

I would not build a NA motor for amy kind of performnce. I would save for a turbo Talon. But if you insist a 9:1 would be a step down as with the fuel control and the aluminum head you could run a 10:1 minimum so why go with what is a low compression for an all motor build-up? Mark

Weights for common .020" over pistons:
WISECO-327 grams
ROSS-343 grams
Arias-362-grams
JE-342-grams

the only reason i questioned the fact was that i heard turbo piston rings were set differently than the n/t pistons. does ne one have pics of a turbo and n/t piston to compare, or can ne one confirm this from experience? i wouldnt see why the ring set location would matter, but it could.
well, it would'nt matter anyway...the piston would do the same job and be fine, the blocks and rods are the same so it would work okay, sometimes turbo piston rings are spaced different to reduce detonation...the only thing you would have to be careful on is the ring end gap since the turbo version has to have more end gap than a n/t setup...so make sure to get n/t rings............. :dsm:

Hey everyone, i finally purchased my bottom end set up today, i decided to go with Wiseco (8.2:1 CR) pistons with eagle H beam rods with ARP fasteners, with kings racing main/rod bearings. Thanks for everyones help with this decision.

Good choice you can't go wrong with Wiseco/Eagle combo. We use Wiseco and Ross, and Eagle rods in most our combinations. Just make sure you have good machine work and assembly done and you'll be ready to rock. If your not sure who to use, consult with some of the local DSM people or boards in your area. Don't head for the cheapest around, proper machine work takes time and isnt always cheap.

Good luck!

im sure i could run 10:1 comp if i milled the head, but seeing that a 10:1 comp piston isnt available, a 9:1 is what im left with. i couldve bought a turbo if i really wanted one, but i have other priorities than tuning a turbo, so i opted for a strong base NA to run spray. ive read alot in the last week, taking in others ideas and setups, but 75% of this uninformative info is people flaming NA builders, doubting there capabilites of making decent power. ne one can buy a new turbo, and slap it onto their stock mani. heck even i can change my own oil. ive built 2 GM Quad4's, both NA both with 250+ hp without spray. the W41 came with a 190 hp stock. granted those arent 4g's, but the possibilities are out there. im simply trying to find someone who has experience with forged slugs for a n/t. :dsm:

Best wishes for you. I can repect you wanting to do something different. Mark

okk so craggar at slowboy emailed me and told me that he has 10.3:1 CR wiseco's for the 420A, now is there any compatibility to use them in the 4g n/t, since i hear of 2g pistons on 1g rods?

Some of this isn't flaming, it is people passing on knowledge. It will take a lot of cash to get a N/A car to equal a turbo DSM running free mods, mbc and a cheap cat-back.
