the 420A Is a great engine better than any Honda better than the 4g63
Alright, I'm not trying to start a flame war or rile anyone up....
but that was dumb. You're talking about a built 420A. I DARE you to run 25psi (or find me an example) on a stock top end of the Neon motor. Hell, even the bottom end.
Best 4 cylinders of all time (this is IMO but time has shown these to dominate time and time again) Mass produced too; we're not talking about 4 cylinders like built sr20dets in 400GTR's or
I love my 4g63...but it is a tie.
1/2nd place: 3sgte or 4g63. These are tried and true 4 cylinders. A guy on streetracingonline set a new record for power on the top and bottom end of a 3sgte; 505 HP/ 530 pounds of torque
3rd: sr20det's. Yep. You heard me. SR20det's. The changes this block has gone through varies; nevertheless it has put down impressive numbers. Japanese tuners have gotten 400 pounds of torque out of unbuilt blocks running on the stock head (but that is pushing it) The aftermarket is amazing AND expesnive though for this engine.
I'll leave it at thsoe 3. The 420A is a nice motor but it's not a perfect motor. Another thing; don't compare a 2g n/a Eclipse to a Neon R/T. Those guys have a much better suspension stock (that's why the Neon is the Miata of FWD autocrossing) and weigh about 750 pounds less. This is going to make me sound even more like a d*ck but....
if you have a 2g N/A you messed up both ways. You would have been better off with a 4g63 for the power aspect; or you would have been a lot better off with the lighter and better handling Neon. It's like you got the weakest part of both worlds (and the numbers and statistics show this) That's why Bushur drag races with a 4g63 and not a 420A. And that's why Dodge made the ACR specifically to piss people off in the SCCA with it's lightweight and backing by the decently powered 420a.
I'm not saying there is no hope in the 420a 2g's. I'm just saying they don't strike me as something the 2g 4g63 guys are jealous of as stated. It's not like a lot of guys come on the forum and say "Damnit! I bought a 4g63 poweredDSM by accident! How can I save myself and do the 420a swap?:
