Small performance tips

1.an open header at the track would be a benefit most likely, but you obviously wouldn't want to run around on the streets like that.

2. look on www.vfaw.com , i believe they discuss a manual steering rack on there. some closely related mitsus came with manual steering racks stock so they would be a better option than simply disconnecting your lines.

You seem to know what you are talking about. So I figure, you might be the person to ask. I have a 93 Eagle Talon N/T and I am doing a few mods myself. One question I have, how thin can I make the head gasket before I have to worry about the valves hitting the pistons. I heard the stock thickness is .054. is this correct. I know of a place that sells them down to .025. I am hoping to increase the compression ratio slightly. If you have any thougts on this please let me know

that thickness should be fine. typically you'll have more problems sealing the head than hitting valves with just a gasket change.

you oughta look into high comp pistons instead though, more money, but better results by far.

i have a 90 gst with no power steering and after a week of driving its fine unless you've got 90 degree turns every 10 feet, i actully like it a bit better anyhow, i feel like i have more control over the car. its really not that bad. i would defintly upgrade to a bigger throttle bodyand big piped cold air intake. on every n/a car i've had iv'e always had a home made air intake with a k&n filter cause it makes such a world of difference on the car. just my 2 cents

PS good luck and check back with times.

you defintly came to the right place looking for answers, despite some people.

Changing the thickness of your head gasket is not a way to "Increase Compression" It will, but not by far. Keep your stock gasket, or if your changing it buy a steel one, and just do new pistons with higher compression.

yes changing your head gasket to a thinner one increases your compression. no it is not minimal, if it can be measured it counts. by my calulations on the 4g63, losing .006 off of your head gasket brings your compression ratio up by .1:1. this being the case, getting rid of almost .030 of the head gasket thickness would mean an increase i compression of .5:1(ex.9.5:1 would increase to 10.0:1 ). i'd say that is worth it. IMO at leastOMG

I really didn't mean to be a smart@ss in the last post, but every comment deserves a come back.:D here is easiest way to "do my #'s" the diference in piston deck hieght between a 9.0:1 comp. piston and a 10.5:1 comp. piston for a 420A is +.124". by putting a .030" thinner head gasket in there, that is basically reducing the comp area by one 1/3 of of the space that the 10.5 comp. pistons would. 1/3 of 1.5 is .5, uless i can't do math..... if you really want to have at it yourself, i can give you the no sh!t formula....you know, area of this, / by this, plus this equals that.....

Thanks not2fast. I really appreciate the help. hell even a .5 increase in compression ratio would help a little. I do plan on getting different pistons a little later on, right now I just plan on it getting up and running again. I would like the formula though if you have it...

hey, i've got a 92 eclipse n/t with injen intake, ngk wires, and gsx cams. i would say the mods that u have planned are good ones and they will get u very close to your goal. i would get some turbo cams (cams out of a gsx or tsi) also. they have bigger lobes so it lets in more air and makes your car pull harder. great upgrade and it only cost about 50.00 for them.:thumb:

Hey let's see some updates if you have any.

What have you done so far, have you made a run after upgrades?

I'm sure we are all a little curious if your car is getting faster, it might give us all a little hope for our n/t's.
