since I pretty much am positive I'm going to have to put a clutch in the spyder gs-t I'm buying, which should I go with for now? It's a bone stock car, I plan on turning it into a nice street machine later. There will be an AWD swap in it's future, and i'm aiming for around 350-400whp.

My only concern with a performance clutch is the added petal pressure. Since this will see the city streets, more then a drag strip. Price wise I can get a new OEM for about $89, but I'm willing to spend around $400; if it meets my torque spec goals and doesn't add way to much petal pressure for the street.

So buy performance now, or just grab OEM for now and wait until I'm making more power; before I worry about a better clutch?

Just buy performance now, no point in buying a new clutch, then buying another one when your ready and having to pull your tranny again. Go OEM with your throw out bearing. Not sure if the 2g's get worn pedal assembly's like the 1gs. Look into a ss clutch line while you're at it.

I use an exedy organic and its just a little more firm than an oem. If you do a thicker clutch shim the fulcrum pivot of the release fork if you dont than you will have to put the clutch all the way down to the floor. This will also save you from clutch drag, syncro failure, tob failure.

Thanks for the reply, I'm interested to know how long/miles you've been running that exedy clutch? I've always seen the brand around in the car world but have never used their parts or really heard much about people running them. How much did you pay for the setup?

Yea the "stock" clutch from those places aren't really a stock clutch. I would go performance now so you don't have to do it again later.

I'm of a different mindset here. From a logical standpoint, I would say go with the OEM clutch for now, and here is my reason for saying this:

You state that you plan to do an AWD swap in the future. Currently though you are running factory FWD and the clutch needs replaced so you can drive the vehicle. Now, if this is strictly a project car, then my logic goes out the window. IF however you need to drive the car now, it is better to have an OEM clutch in the car now.

My thoughts are, why waste money now on a performance clutch and trans pull, when you are going to be swapping the trans for AWD (and thereby installing an AWD clutch) for your build?

Wait on the performance clutch until you are ready to do the AWD swap. No sense burning money on something that you currently can't use. Not only will this allow you to drive the car until then, but it will also give you more time to research clutches that will suit the ultimate end game and be able save money towards said swap. Call it getting all your ducks in a row (so to speak) so that you can perform the swap without any major headaches or problems.

Since the first install 10,000mi I also have prothanes and run it hard! I went 8000mi and had a tob failure (use oem) at that time I took a look at the clutch it looked brand new still after 8000mi of abuse.

This is what I was thinking originally.

clutch is the same whether it's FWD or AWD
And this is what i figured out after doing some window shopping!:thumb:
Thanks for all the replies guys I think I'm going to go with the exedy clutch.

do you know the part number for that clutch, or can you point me in the direction of a site i can find it at?

If you don't mind purchasing parts off eBay, you can get an XTD "Stage 1" clutch and throwout bearing for ~$185.

This thread has been on the DSMtuners home page for a while, and the part seems to have good reviews.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...any-one-know-anything-about-xtd-clutches.html

This thread seems to advocate the XTD "Stage 4" clutch, saying it will hold up at 450hp and 400lbs/tq.

Again, it's somewhere between cheap and performance, and it is off eBay.

Edit: Here's the XTD website. They have clutches listed as "OEM" for ~$120.

Go oem tob even with a molded clutcch My 8000mi tob failer wasn't oem or exedy some autozone junk. Shimming my fulcrum also made my car much more driveable it cured grinds and other nasty shift issues. Hope this is helpfull

Act 2100 is one of the best street clutches. Not very heavy and holds very decent power. Up to.as much as 350ft/lbs has been held on, them. Remember ft/lbs is what you need to look at when buying a clutch not horsepower.

Act IMO makes some of the best clutches for street cars and mild race cars with their new twin disk setup. They are well worth their price for anyone interested in upgrading oem.

I installed a oem exedy clutch kit in my gf awd and honestly to me it feels like I was driving her old em2. id recommend the 2100 for any replacement under 350ft/lbs

^^the exedy oem isnt really supposed to feel different, the organic deffinitly has a different feel. From what I have read on jacks transmissions site dont use fidanza

Didnt car for the Exedy stage two cerametalic that I have. Pulled it for a Clutchmaster unit with organic disc, very smooth engagement and will hold the power level you are looking for fyi. FX200 is ideal and you can customize the pp or disc to your specs.

I run a act flywheel and a act 2100 disc i love it never had a problem with it ill buy another once this one is toast. This spring. I also run a oem tob.
