What is a life span of a performance cams. I bought a used 264/272 hks camshafts, there sd some scuffs and wear. Do you measure the lobes? If its scratched up,
Does that affect the performance? Thanks any input would be appreciated

If it's any help to you, I'm running stock cams that have a little scratch on one or two of the lobes. No it doesn't make a difference, unless it's a giant gash.
Some of the others might tell you otherwise but I wouldn't worry about them. Make sure that the bearing surfaces (where the caps go over) are not pitted. If it's heavily pitted then the cams might be trashed.
Just use common sense basically. If you're still unsure, you could post a photo of what concerns you.

Use good oil and change it at the appropriate time is the only way to keep the engine parts to last there longest, that and good temps for engine and oil.

i always used royal purple on my engine, but i bought this usd on classifed here at dsm tuners, he said it has roughly 6k miles. there were scuffs and maybe 2 -3 dings on one camshaft lobe, maybe a size of a water drop. ill get pics and post the actual cams in a bit

There should be little wear on a cam shaft. I had catastrophic bottom end bearing failure, yet my cams (stock) looked brand new. No scuffing, no blue heat marks, nothing. Cams have a lot of bearing surface and are subjected to little load (compared to rod and crank bearings) so they typically don't wear out, performance or stock. The lobes on after market cams might see more load than a stock cam, depending on spring selection, ramp rate, lift, and duration, but with roller rockers, it shouldn't make much difference at all. Unless the oil was really dirty and full of shavings, they shouldn't be scuffed.

Post some pictures up. They might just need a little polishing.

I wouldn't really worry about the scuffs to much a long as they ain't like huge gashes or anything a lil wear an scuffs on the lobes are normal, main thing to look for is deep pitting were the bearings ride and flat spots on the lobes, I ## still not confident about them post some pics an I'm sure we'll b able to give u a straight answer on them
