ok so my battery is shot... whats the best battery i should get to replace it...i plan on having a lot of down time since im always working on it and dont have much time to finish what im doing....

also what should i do to the battery once i get it to preserve it when its not in use for long times....(disconnect it, leave it in, keep it out of the cold?)

was looking at optimas, but unless they are a lot lighter, or offer a lot better performance in some way, its not worth the 160 to me....is it?

I swear by the optimas, but i get mine for 130 becuase i know the guy at the autoparts store and he gets 20 percent off. The yellow top is a deep cylce and is able to be fully discharged with less damage to it than a regular battery.. i dont know much about batteries though. I just know im forgetful and will probably leave my lights on or something.

By "performance battery" do you mean light or has a long life with resistance to heat, vibration, and has a lot of CCA and reserve capacity? Odyssey makes some light batteries that probably wouldn't work well with a big stereo system or leaving your lights on. Optima batteries can have large capacities and CCA, but are pretty heavy.

im talking about the best battery from a racers point of veiw... so i guess lightweight would be the best, but reliability is a factor...

edit: i heard a lot of people use civic battery cuz they are smaller and fit the uicp when using a magnus smim,.....my guess is that since they are smaller, they are lighter, would this be a good choice, and if so, which year civic?

If you're looking for a performance battery, Optima is what you want. http://www.optimabatteries.com/publ...n/config/product_info/automotive/starter.html I've known people letting these batteries to sit for few years and start up a car with no re-charge. Can be left in a car, connected, longer than the usual batteries, without being completely drained. Holds a charge better/longer (personal experience, I'm using the Red Top). Can be mounted upside down or on its side if you'd like. Vibration-resistant, higher heat tolerance. That's performance.

If you want a light battery, racing battery is what you need.

i think ill go with either an odyessey or a civic battery, can anyone give me more info on the civic battery?

what exactly are you looking for in the battery, just being lighter? If so just go to a battery store and get a civic battery, the CCA(cold cranking amps) rating will not matter too much to you since your in Cali and dont have a huge stereo. Just get one with a good price

I've always used optima's, And i'm pretty hard on batteries. I've got a red-top in my Cutlass and a yellow top in my talon, and let me tell you they can take a whole lot of abuse.

OPTIMA RED TOP.

yep they're the best if you ask me. mine has taken 5 hours of parking light drain and still turned over my 4G63 without a problem.I've done that on 3 separate occasions. they're worth the $$$.

i think ill go with the civic for price reasons... what year civic battery tho, and what company should i go with? interstate, napa?

If you really want performance from your power system I would just get a reliable battery. And then you can add performance on it by getting an AEM lightweight pulley. And also if you are really concerned about saving battery life, I suppose you could get a battery kill switch. I wouldnt put money into an extremly expensive battery. A better choice would be to buy a dependable cheaper battery, and use the leftover money for actual performance parts, because do you honestly believe that you will feel the difference if you have a performance battery or not. All batteries put out 12volts. What wears your battery is accesories. Go with the AEM pulley. But whatever you do good luck.

I got the yellow top Optima and the battery relocation kit from Jegs. From a weight standpoint its good to install it in the trunk and you free up alot of room in the engine bay. I also went the extra mile and ran 1 gauge wire to different ground points on the car all the way back to the negative battery terminal (90 DSM = bad grounds) My set up is cheap and very reliable. Jegs sales the relocation kit for $60

found the warrenty.....woot... new battery for free, i think the performace/price on that one is the best... and to the guy talking about the aem pully... if your talking about a less expensive way i would go with an underdrive pully not made by aem, since all their stuff is marked up so much.... and also, i was talking about getting a lightweight battery, since the dynabatt weighs like 14 lbs and the interstate i have weighs 32 lbs.... and the dyna is about half the size....which means more room...

Something to think about is the clearance between your battery and strut bar if you have one. I have an Optima Red Top and I am using the top terminals on the battery. I had to put electrical tape on the strut bar cause the positive terminal was so close that I was afraid that when I hit a bump it would ground out. Now I'm just going to put it in the trunk so I don't have to deal with it.

dont have one, but thanks for pointing that out... even tough there is that plastic cover thing for the positive cable on my car,... still a good idea.... since i do plan on getting one somewhere down the road....
