Me being the idiot that I am, over tightened the PCV valve and I cracked the valve cover. Now the PCV valve wont go in tight. Is there any negative effects to this? I'm thinking this will cause a pretty big boost leak from the crankcase. Tell me if I'm wrong. Should I be looking for a new valve cover? Thanks for your help.

i dont know if it's going to be a big boost leak... i would look around for a good used one, then clean it up and paint it... the PCV valve is basically just a check valve (a one way) that will let out all excess positive crankcase pressure, so basically oil and air will leak out of the valve cover through the cracks..

Well when the pcv valve goes bad it causes a boost leak. So I would guess that yes you will have a boost leak. Key word there is "guess". I would also suggest finding a used valve cover (not to hard on trader or here in the classifieds). You can find the prep and paint instructions in the tech section of these forums if you want to do it up yourself.

Thanks guys. Any other thoughts? Wisemen?

I'll do a boost leak test after I get my tester back from a fellow dsmer. You guys ever just kick yourself in the ass for doing something so stupid, especially on something so routine and easy. Seems to happen to me all the time.

No, a cracked valve cover near pcv will not create a boost leak, just oil leak unless the pcv itself is defective. Remove the pcv, JB weld the VC then re-install the pcv with thread sealant, or replace it like already mentioned.

No boost leak issues. Think about it, what does the PCV valve do? It seals when there is boost. The part that seals is inturnal to the valve. When boosting, it would still seal even if it was pulled out of the cover and just hanging there as long as the valve was good.

My friend had the same problem and we just put some black RTV on the PCV valve, screwed it back in and let it dry before he drove the car. No oil leaked after that.

That or replace the cover.

Sweet. Thanks a lot guys. I'm going to RTV the hell out of that little guy and see what happens. I love saving money.
