Whats everyone using for a parts cleaner these days? I tried diesel in my parts washer once it it didn't clean all that great. Tried some purple cleaner one time and that ended up discoloring the alum. Needs to be affordable and clean well. I may try mineral spirits next but I was curious what others are using for a parts cleaner.

I use that too along with brake cleaner but I was looking for something to soak greasy parts in my parts washer. I need about 5 gallons of some good stuff to put in this:

I have most tools in my garage. Full air, press, gas/arc welders, engine hoist, most hand tools. Now if I can just get it organized, all will be good. :) Let me know if you ever want to come by.

It's pretty hard to clean aluminum. If you have corrosion on it the best way to remove that is probably bead blasting? I heard you shouldn't get aluminum hot tanked.

Stoddard Solvent is the usual thing to use in a wash tank. Call your local Safe-T-Kleen distributor and find out what they charge to keep you supplied. You might find it's worth it.
Great suggestion. I'll call them and find out.

It was only with that royal purple crap if you let it sit in there. I found out the hard way when a put in bunch of alum. ls1 parts and they all got white spots on them and changed color a little. I also have a bead blaster but you should clean the grease off first before blasting.

bead blaster, ultrasonic and a little brake cleaner, or acetone if I am at work.

I don't have a parts cleaner machine like that, but I use simplegreen (found at autozone), meangreen (found at dollar general), or paint thinner.

yea..Simple Green - did many carb overhauls and cleaning car parts with that stuff - washes off with water, biodegradable, non-toxic, don't smell like petrol afterwards...just a good overall great cleaner/degreaser.

And cheap too - less than 9 bucks a gallon.

I keep a spraybottle full of that stuff - straight, not watered down.

Great suggestions. Thanks! I'll look at the price on a solvent and simple green. I've used it many times in the bottle and smells better than other solvents. I used a large bucket of simple green to clean my suspension parts to my Typhoon and it worked okay but didn't get everything off but I'm not sure if solvent would of cleaned any better. Its usually pricey in a 5 gallon container but maybe I can find it on sale somewhere. I'll also call and get prices on the solvent. Thanks again for all the great responses!
