That picture made my chest get all tight. Ugh. I hate people. "Man, that parked car came outta nowhere, man!" Why are only stupid people breading like jack rabbits?

Haha, stupid people "breading" or breeding? Just wondering, I would love to see some fried up stupid people!

This is what happened to my all wheel drive swapped Spyder. It was parked in front of my house. The city offered me $6000 totaled.

Does anyone know how to fight this? How can I get more money for my labor and parts? They can't just give me the money for a cheap FWD Eclipse and walk away laughing... can they???

where are you at i would get a layer that specializes in this

First off MOTHER OF HELL!!! Sorry for the loss bro.

Secondly, I agree with LSD.

I don't. Insurance companies don't give a rats ass about "Custom Built Cars" Unless you were smart and got insurance made for this, which ususaly only covers old hotrods. Like I said, you need to just make it known as a *RARE* Eclipse GS'X' Spyder. Only a few were made like it! The insurance company does not need to know you are the one that converted it or a shop did it or whatever. Trust me on this! I used to have a a custom built car that was hot, and a tow truck driver drove over it since it was such a small car... it was not covered!

The only time that you would need that type of insurance is if it was YOUR fault, not when its someone elses fault. They are supposed to get you back to exactly what you had or the monetary value of what you had, before they were negligent.

that has never worked in my situation... a Tow truck driver drove his truck over my 86 Fiero! And they only gave me the BBV of an 86 Fiero... They didn't take into account the things that were done... which was a fully built motor doing around 300whp N/A, The custom body work I spent months on... The custom suspension I spent weeks on!

The car was towed to the yard from its location because the fuel pump died and A few days went by before I was able to get back to it to tow it to my location, so someone had it towed away. When I found the car, it was fine, but racked up a heafty tow price so I had to come back... when I came back, half the car was crushed... and half the roof was ripped off. Thier excuse was "we thought it was one of our cars that we were going to send off to be crushed!"

They only gave me the Registered value of the car, and I stupidly didn't fight it!

I'm so sorry about your car. That happened to my neighbors Firebird. Now I park on the lawn because my city won't put a stop sign on my corner.

Seriously though, fight it. Don't let all that hard work add up to nothing.

Well duh, didn't you know that parking DSM's in grass makes them happy? :D haha Its like a Memory Foam bed for them to sleep on! My peice of junk looks sexy in my opinion in the back yard! :D

Just a thought, if you say it's a rare GSX and you lie to an insurance agent, isn't that insurance fraud which would void your settlement and land you in jail? They have to cover it. You dont need special insurance if they hit you. You'd be in the same situation if you didnt have insurance at all. We've all seen the picture of the F250 driving over the farrari in the garage. We arent safe from stupidity anywhere. The best thing to do is to consult the city right out to see if they're willing to settle without all this BS for $10k. Show them pictures of the AWD swap to prove you're not ####ing with them and you have proof ready for court. You seem to be on the right track though. Find a good apraiser and have him look at it. If you can, find one that drives a dsm :)

It is a rare Spyder with an AWD conversion. The VIN, which both insurance companies, the police, and about everybody involved with now have says the vehicle is a FWD vehicle. If you act like it is some special rare factory limited run of AWD Spyders, you will get caught in a lie and have a difficult time getting things done.

Be truthful, get a lawyer, they will pay you what it is worth.

OMG thats depressing to see. Please keep us updated as much as u can on whats happening with it.

:cry:Sorry about your car,
I always wanted to do that to mine (probably will),
so do everything posible to get what it's worth... good luck

Like you said... stupidly didn't fight it. Of course they're going to offer you the lowest amount possible, that's capitalism!

I also agree that by 'fibbing' a bit, it will only get you into trouble. Watch Judge Judy and you'll know that being completely honest will net you the best results.

I can't exactly lie and say it's a rare AWD Spyder... since there is no GSX Spyder and thus conveys no actual value in the eyes of the law. What I have to do is have it appraised as property, not necissarily as a car that's being driven. I have to account for the purchase of parts, personal time investment and emotional attachment. Thats where I am now. Still trying to get someone to assess the actual value of the car and then I can tack on distress money, though I cannot get punitive damages.

It doesn't help that I work 60 hours a week and have no time to deal with this sh1t.

Ya beat me to it. They'd pick up on the lie in the FIRST stage of the "investigation" also.

Sounds like your on the right track. Also, make sure to tack that appraisers price onto the lawsuit if they decide to fight you in court. I don't know from personal experience but I've heard appraisals get pricey. Also, question the drivers judgement, looks like the truck literally dragged your car 5-10 ft. This is all on a "if they decide to fight you in court basis, keep in mind, but if they do, question the drivers speed too. He didn't ease around a corner only to end up on your car. Best of luck and SUCKS to hear man.

My post may have come across differently, but this is the message I was trying to convey. I never ment to say that you should lie to them, but you should make them aware that with the conversion, it's a rare vehicle.

what about showing them the fair market value of an AWD Spyder. I had an AWD spyder too and I sold it for 13k. it was just a mildly modded AWD spyder very simular to yours.

Like was said before, DO NOT LIE AND SAY IT IS A GSX SPYDER. That's bad. It's a RARE GST SPYDER that has been PROFESSIONALLY CONVERTED to AWD, something that costs (insert your hoursx$80 an hour+parts cost here). This was a PROFESSIONALLY BUILT EXOTIC CAR, not some run of the mill POS. Show up in a suit and fight the crap out of this!!

Dont lie. but do tell them about the conversion and how it now makes it a rare car. Find an appraiser, the quicker the better. The longer you wait, the more this gets put on the back burner, and the less they will care. And no that doesn't mean they give you more money. They are going to think that this is just some stupid rice mobile that some punk kid owns. like dsmfa9futter said. Show up in a suit. show them you clean up good and that you mean business. This isn't some stupid rice mobile. This is the same as some domestic putting a Big block in his mustang or camero. Obviously a little more work, but you get the point. The price of this car must be found out, and i am actually curious myself to how much it is worth.

So whats the new word on this situation?

Thats exactly why I dont park on the side of the road no more ever.
Ive been hit before . Luckily my dsm is garage kept and not driven every day, not everyone is so lucky...
a 2g awd spyder is rare and unfortuantly destroyed... I feel your pain thats why my mom always told me cars can be a bad investment. But real talk, like everyone else mentioned dont lie just try to come up
with everything you can to help your position, them seeing that its a convertable and looking into production info and seeing there wasnt
any convertable awd models should let them see for themselves that its rare. The garbage truck driver needs to trash his driving career obviously because he cant drive...... Good luck...

im still trying to figure out how someone misses a 3500 lb hunk of metal in the road ??

anyone ever notice that the coolest and most costly/custom cars on any message board get destroyed one way or another?
