So i completely screwed up and dropped a good piece of paper towel in the oil pan. I've tried fishing it out with a hanger and no luck. Do i have to take off the whole oil pan to get it out or will it just burn up if it gets circulated through?

+1, On how the hell you pulled that off. It would take some skill to do that...

I dont get it.? Did it slide down the dipstick hole? Or slip in the oil cap hole? By good piece, Do you mean full sheet? Or a Piece that was fresh, And clean, But small? On a serious note, You are gonna want to get that out of there...If it is big enough it will plug the pick up screen in the oil pan and starve the engine of oil.

Did you really just ask that question?!?!? TAKE IT OUT!!!!! I don't know about you but I wouldn't want paper towel in my engine/turbo.... Then again it'll probably just plug up your oil pickup, starve the motor of oil and you'll grenade it sky high

It was a big screw up haha. I dropped a 1/15th of a sheet into the oil return hole. It was leaking so i was spraying on some spray gasket and didn't wanna spray into the oil pan and the piece i put in the hole fell on through :/ dumb dumb mistake. I figured i'd have to get it out though. I just don't wanna go through taking the whole oil pan off.

Possibly his pistons are out and he was cleaning something or rather it simply fell in. There's no where else a paper-towel would fit.. Although the OP may surprise me with his story LOL.

You need to get it out. If it filled the return hole it will plug the pick up, I know it wont be easy to see but try a piece of hanger, Bend it so you can sorta poke around in there till you get it out. That sucks dude, But you have to.

Fell sideways into the drain hole? Pull the pan and get it out the right way, I know its a PITA, but its cheaper than an engine change.

Pistons out with the pan on?

Hey he coulda pulled the pistons and put the oil pan back on. WTF

What I would do is put a quart or two of oil in it, then pull the drain plug and maybe it will come out with the draining oil or at least come to the oil drain hole where you can get ahold of it with something.

I'll try around a few things before i get to the pulling stage. Don't i have to remove the downpipe and some other things to pull the pan? I've never done that job but seeing how to get to all those bolts...

I am also boggled by how you got a piece of paper towel in the oil pan. Regardless of how it happened, you need to remove it by any means necessary. Leaving it in will cause a whole host of problems that will lead to engine failure. It will not burn off or go away on its own. Remove whatever you have to remove to get it out, and be very careful not to get any type of contaminant in the oil system.

my old friend got a bouncy ball stuck in his oil pan doing the same thing, he spent an hour with a closehanger trying to get it out...Apparently he lodged the bouncy ball in the turbo oil return to spray copper gasket on without shooting inside the pan (who cares anyways, really?? I usually put my finger in the turbo return and spray around it, wash my hands, voila)
then when he went to take it out, while trying to grab he popped it in.

LOL..Drop the pan, its too easy

Exactly same thing i was trying to do.

that question came from a "proven member"? it's common sense. its not hard to pull the oil pan, take out the paper towel, replace oil pan, fill with oil. maybe 30 min?

Have you personally pulled the oil pan and put it back on in 30 minutes? Don't know about anyone else, but it ####ing SUCKS pulling the pan.

most annoying part is that you have to remove the downpipe and if it's the first time you're pulling it off it's gonna suck right around the cat(if you have one). Then there are gobs of bolts on the bottom and side that you have to unscrew(I forgot to mention to DRAIN THE PAN if you haven't) then you should be able to pull it down. I did this about a year ago with a donor engine that I have yet to rebuild but I'm pretty sure it was something along those steps.

Yeah i'm just trying to avoid pulling the pan if at all possible, the downpipe is a real pain to get off. I'm gonna try pouring oil in and seeing if it i'll come to the drain hole, if not i'll pull the pan :/

I pulled my downpipe for the first time it was so rusted to the cat I had to take it to a pro to blast through the holes $30 later I was doing fine the part connected to the O2 housing came off relatively easily I think it was ### of the extra heat from being right next to the turbo I'm guessing

Do i have to take off the whole oil pan to get it out or will it just burn up if it gets circulated through?
If you leave it in there it will be drawn into the oil pump screen, clog the screen entirely, and deny the engine of oil.

If this isn't something you'd like to have happen, I recommend getting it out however possible. An extra 30 minutes of work now will save you weeks of labor and money spent later.

Go ahead and laugh a the poor guy I almost had my wireless home phone take a dive in the gas tank.
GAS TANK you say!!
I was installing a walbro pump and a little birdie said "you better put a cover over that hole dummy". A few minuets later the phone fell off the trunk spoiler and tried to dive into the now covered hole tank was half full of gas(don't know who the dummy was that left it there")
Try to find a way to get it out just your luck and the pickup will do its job SUCK IT UP!:ohdamn:

try draing the oil first... you mau be able to pull it out of the oil pan drain....
