Painting chrome head of Type RS BOV ?

I just got a Greddy Type RS BOV and I want to change the color of the upper part of it. I was thinking about a nice matte black.

Can I remove the upper part without messing up the bov ? Probably not...
How would I prepare the chrome surface for painting ? Rough it up with sandpaper and then prime it ?

You could take it apart, but I wouldn't. Just tape everything off and do a GOOD job sanding and preparing the surface to get it to look nice, or its gonna look like garbage.

Sorry for the bump ( if it is considered as such ), just wanted to share my experiences...

I sanded the polished ( not chromed, misconception on my part ) head of the bov with 180 grain wet-or-dry paper, wet at first, but found out that it works better dry until it looked really scratched up. After that I took my time to tape it off, using some stuff I found at a home working shop, it's used for taping off when painting your walls. There is a clear plastic foil attached to the tape which comes in very handy. Then I spray it with a primer/filler and after drying sprayed it a glossy black. It went way better than I thought, spraying it was a very easy and I don't have very much experience with that yet.
