I'm in the market for new tires (probabely kumho MX) and i'm running the stock 97 GSX wheels. They are only 6.5 inches wide which really sucks but cannot afford new wheels too. I have two questions:
1. Do you think i should get really nice rubbers with my stock wheels, or wider wheels for cheap with less effective rubber.
2. Considering i keep my stockers, would i gain anything by oversizing the tires to 225/45, or should i keep it at the stock 215/50? I heard that its worse to run the oversized tires because of sidewall flex. Any opinions, experiences?

TIRES are important, dont skimp on those PLEASE. even though they're on smaller width rims, the tires are probably the most important piece of keeping traction/handling

get kumho MX with 215's or something of the like

yea i think you should just spend the money and get a good brand tire because it will help as far as traction and handling, kumho, nitto, bfgoodrich are all good brands so its really up to you, yea their sorta pricey but its a good investment. :thumb: goodluck!

I've been married for ten years, so I'm not an expert on the modern scene, but from what I've read on various lists, popular opinion is that guys who drive cars on stock wheels have no need for really nice rubbers.

I think people misunderstood my post. I already know and understand that tires are the most important part of a suspension and i already have in mind the type of tires i would get. My question was, would the added width of wider wheels give me more benefit in terms of traction, or would it be more effective to get nicer rubber on my narrow wheels. Also, i wanted to know if i should go 215/50 or 225/45 on my 17X6.5 wheels, assuming i stick with the stockers.

ok let me be more specific. If it was between me getting:

kumho MX or a similar rubber on my stock 6.5" wheels
-or-
Getting new 7.5" wide wheels with Wanli 1099 tires in size 205/40/17.

I dunno if anyone is familiar with wanli they have the same tread pattern as the yokohama avs sport and i've heard they're not bad. Let me know what you think as i am to buy one of the two today. Thanks alot!
