Well I purchased a 1997 GST Turbo for $3500. It looks and ran great. the same day I bought the car it spun a rod bearing. I tore down the motor and im replacing the rod bearings, main bearings, rings, gaskets, oil pump, water pump, and belts. The crank awas fine after a little polishing with some emery cloth. After I get it back together, what would some good modifications be to start off with? Currently the car is stock to my knowledge. I was thinking about first getting a front mount intercooler with 2.75 inlet and outlet to replace the stock intercooler. Then I was thinking about solid intake majbe from injen. s-afc II, injectors, boost controller, and for sure after market gauges because stock ones are crap.. can I get some help?

well i am currently re-building the completemotor and purchased a complete t3/t4 kit from xs power.. anyone else go this route\\\\?

NO !! :notgood:

People on this website have many different opinions on XS Power regarding their different parts. Most people can say their intercoolers are quite a good value for the money, but for their turbos .... Their turbos have been known to break down after 30 miles, and in some cases, their housing split in half ! Also, the blade hits the housing on the inside... It's not a rare thing either, it's quite common for this to happen. A few number of people have had luck with their 16G turbos, but definetely not enough to give this company a good reputation for turbos. Also, their turbo manifolds and headers are known to crack and practically all apart.

One of the burdens of becoming a DSMer is having to research every single part prior to purchasing it, if you do not do this, you may get more than what you bargained for. Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is (most of the time).

You can also just search "XS Power" and find some more background information on the company.

Regarding your future plans for the GST , you can check out the tech guides, they have many write-ups on completing the
"free mods" and then you can move on to your stage 1 modding.

Good luck with your DSM ! Happy modding :thumb:

Yeah XS Power is just asking for trouble in the turbo department. It all depends on what you buy. There exhaust manifolds are really starting to come together. While they aren't equal length yet they are not as prone to cracking anymore and there are a decent amount of people on here that have had them over a year with little problem. Again with the intercooler kit. Some guys love it because it was cheap and has held up so far. Some guys have there endtanks literally blow apart when they try to run 20 psi through them on the bench test. Since you have a rebuilt motor, of course a good choice of turbo is the EVO III 16G. Great street turbo and very potent as well at higher boost level. I would go with boost gauge, mbc, exhaust, intake, rewire your fuel pump or get a new one, get some injectors, get a datalogger and a tuning device as well then upgrade your turbo.

Don't get a frontmount untill you get a bigger turbo than the t-25 and the supporting mods. Trust me putting a giant FMIC on a stock car will only make you slower.

I know it has been said a million times, but this is still the best thing to follow when you start to mod your DSM: http://www.dsmtuners.com/tuning-guide/2gturbo/stage1power.php

I couldn't agree more :thumb:

Not to mention, even before you start yankin stuff out, I would do an overall inspection of the car, to ensure that you don't have anymore issure like you did with your engine. See how it runs after that. Only after all of that, I would start modding it. One piece at a time, I wouldn't swap out alot of different parts at once. The turbo IMO, should be the last thing you do, unless the stock T-25 is completely shot.
