The Ostrich is an EPROM emulator. It allows you to shut off the car, modify the code, and restart without burning a new chip. The later versions also had the ability to do some code tracing to see what the ECU was accessing when it was running.

Pros: If you know what you are doing you can change everything.
Cons: You have to know what your doing.

ah i see, thanks for the info! I'm currently sorting through a mess of a gsx and trying to get an idea of what i should keep and what i should toss

It's an incredibly powerful tool, but you need to do your homework. I ran 9's with an ostrich. There is a yahoo group dsm ecu, and then dsm-ecu.com as well. Both are pretty slow these days, but there is ton's of information. Don't expect to be spoon fed.

ecu options for my 1g?

Since you already have a EPROM ECU the options are wide open. You can do it yourself with the Ostrich, have somebody make you a custom chip, or get DSMLink.
