Just as the title says, I need some opinions. I'm basically at a point between deciding to port the stock 2G exhaust manifold or not. I have my turbo and everything needed. I've installed everything but the turbo and new punishment O2. The only thing holding me up is giving it to a shop to get it ported. I'll probably have to wait 1 to 2 weeks for this to be done, but I really don't wanna. But I've been told that porting it really won't make much difference for my setup.

So my question is, is it worth it when considering spoolup time and overall power to port the exhaust manifold??

My setup:
K & N Intake Filter & 3" Dejon Tool Intake
Megan Racing 3" DP and Catback
Blitz SS BOV
Megan Racing Short Throw Shifter
Symborski Shift Kit
SBR 3500 Clutch
XACT Streetlight Flywheel
ARP Headstuds
Headgasket - Mitsubishi Multilayer
Brian Crower Stage 2 Cams (272/272)
PLX SM-AFR Wideband
Walbro 255 FP (Rewired)
AFPR Kit
FIC 850 Injectors
DSMLink
XS Power FMIC Kit
PTE 5031RLE
38mm Tial WG
Punishment Racing MS Polished O2 Housing (Rerouted for 38mm TIAL)
SPAL Slimline AC Fan 12"

Port 2G Exhaust Manifold??

just save your money and get a tubular manifold, you'll get much better gains with that then porting. or even look into one of SBR's cast manifold or something similar seems like a better use of your money to me.

i would just port the collector area, i wouldnt bother porting anything else.. just open it up to a 7cm gasket size thats generally all i do. just did one yesterday actually, it will get you by and it flows decent enough until you can afford a nice manifold like the New fp, or some custom tubular(with a good warranty) dont buy any of those cheapo tubular mani's

Okay, I'll probably just attempt to port out the one I have.

So basically, I need to just port the collector out to 7cm. What about the runners? Should I leave them alone?

I'm a little nervous, I've never done this before..

What porting tools do you have? I use an electric Die grinder with stone bits for the collector and intake ports on the manifold but, for the runners, I use a dremel with a flex extension and a cutoff wheel and smooth it out with sanding wheels(not the drum type). It may take awhile but, you will learn something and you'll notice the performance benefits as well. Just make sure your manifold doesn't have any real serious cracks before starting.

Just take your time. Get a 7cm gasket and use a scribe or marker and make where you need to grind to. Don't do what you are not comfortable doing. To help, go to the VFAQ site and look at the article that explains how to port the 2g exhaust manifold and you should be fine.

It helps to have a die grinder with stone bits to take the material away in the collector but, it just means it will take longer with the dremel bits, oh and they wear out fast too. Thats also why I suggest using fiberglass cutoff disk for the other parts.

Keep us posted on whats happening. If you have specific questions, try to post up some pictures and let use know what you need.
