So i did my fp1x cams and springs and retainers last night and im 90 percent sure i didnt change the timing. After the install my idle was bouncy from about 500 to 900, it felt fine driving though. Is this just becasue the cams are aftermarket and im totally stock tune or do you think i skipepd a tooth. Also yes i know everyone is going to say well go check, but i work everyday till monday and go to school in the day and monday im scheduled for tuning so i dont really have much time. Basically im just kinda worried since these cams are sapose to retain more of stock idle and there not. I know skipping one tooth can cause bad base idle, but has anyone else dont it? is it only a little rough idle liek i stated or a larger one. Mine kinda feels like when the balance shaft is out of phase but not that bad. So is it my cams and stock tune, or more likey my belt.
My vacuume is 14 or 15 at idle.
I didn't degree them because i was under the impression you didnt need to for 264/264 comps

Sounds like you did miss a tooth. Also if you have balance shafts it's very possible to get the back balance shaft out of phase. You have to pull those plugs out of the block and check the balance shafts. If you are paying for tuning you are best off to get this checked now. Should have do it when you put it together. It sucks to do work 2x. I wouldn't tune it in it's current state. If you tune it that way and then fix the problem your tune will be affected and it will be just more money down the drain.

So there is no chance it idle's a little crappy from not degreeing them and haveing stock tune and injectors? Also i took my cas out and flipped it just incase and it didnt make a difference.

Correct me if im wrong, but since i had the cam gears taped and zip tied in two spots i know i didn't jump a tooth on the cam gears and if i jumped one on the sproket it would be 14 degrees off and i can't imagine it would ever start that off right? Also could my timing be right and my b.s. belt be out of phase.

Then you probably have your balance shafts way out of sync. I had a buddy who put 272's in his car. Has just the worse idle I've ever seen in a 4 cylinder. Very very rough and very lopy. And the car vibrated like a dog in heat all the time. I went for a drive with him in it only once and told him to check out the BS. Sure enough the back shaft was out. He didn't want to pull the plug cause it's a PITA and he figured he had it right. Now it idles nice and has no more vibrations.

Ok well first of all I know my bs ist out of phase becasue all i did was zip tie the belt to cam gears and pull them off never screwed with it. So then i checked the tiing i was one tooth off which i fixed and my bs belt was not broken either. My vibration isnt much just enough to shake steering wheel a tine bit and make some noises in cabin. My idle is pretty constant 800 to 1000 is all it really jumps.
