i'm bout to change timin belts and though i might as well swap the pulley's and cam gears for higher grade ones... u guys know if the unorthodox pulley set is any good and the fidanza cam gear set? thanx opinions on other's... that don't cost an arm and a leg?

Leave the Harmonic Balancer in. It does more good than harm. I know it is a weak link but it is needed for our engines.

As far as the Cam Gears, leave the stock ones in unless you are getting a set of aggressive CAM shafts aswell. The fatory gears are good enough for the factory bumpsticks.

And for all the other pulley replacements, I have no expereince in those catagories. Use that money for something worth your while NOW. They are expensive and won't do much good for you right now. For the price of all of those replacement gears you can get an S-AFC, Injectors, and tune that 14b alot better. ;)

i had a underdrive crank pulley on my car and recently removed it and went back to stock because it was the prime suspect in causing the car's low voltage problem. my car charges alot better since. they built power by slowing the crank, alternator etc. so its very likely that you may end up geting low voltage. i guess they affect some cars differently than others.

my 2 cents

so ur saying if I JUST bought the 3 alternator pulley, power steering pulley, and water pump pulley it would casue low voltage?? i thought just the crank one did that????

Sounds like he only replaced the Crank Pulley. Also sounds like just the replacement of the crankpulley, back to stock, fixed his voltage issue. Even if he went aftermarket on the other ones he solved it by using the stock factory crankpulley.

i've heard that getting the belts that are usually offered with the underdrive pulley sets are recommended.
however from my research its said that the crank pulley is the one that will yield the most hp campared the others and is the least likely to cause low voltage issues. but in my case i only had the underdrive crank pulley and was getting low voltage.
getting the other pulleys without the crank one is almost point less...hp wise. and installing all underdrive pulleys avail. on a daily driver is very likely to result in low voltage. remm. how they build power, by slowing. so if you'er in traffic with headlights on, a/c, aftermarket stereo system, and our weak ass factory alternators. it could cause a problem.

if you are bent on getting underdrive pulleys for a daily driver i would suggest only getting the crank one and the belt to go with it. all cars react different though, so my experience may not be the same as yours. but do your research. not to knock underdrive pullys but you can probably spend that $ on something else for your car.

again just my 2 cents

well i heard if ur engine isnt balanced DONT get the underdrive pulley, so i guess i will get the other 3, i know it wont like give 10HP but i am sure it will give me better gas millege casue its lighter and its gotta give some HP, it spins faster right?? will getting the underdrive ruin the balance or anything, i know about the volt thing, but what if i dont have like a sub, or that doesn't matter

You just can't have a system in your car.

I have had my underive pulley on for more than 2 years no problems.

i had the 3 accessory pulley set from machv installed (water pump, ps, alternator). they are the same size as stock and same belt profile, just lighter. no underdriving, just less rotating weight.

i am sure they do more then looks there lighter so i am sure they free up some power, i bought one for my old car, just 1 and felt a diff, i am just tring to see if the underdirve pulley will hurt my engine,i am getting mixed results, not worried about low voltage casaue i dont have a sub

why didnt u get the underdrive one, and did you feel any power with the 3 pulley's/

i don't want to deal with low voltage issues.

now that i have the stock pulleys out of the car, they really don't weigh much at all.
reduced weight from the machv set is probably minimal, but it's still rotating weight i guess.

thought long and hard about this one, and i figured i'd get it done since i needed the tbelt done anyway.
wouldn't do it again for $200.
live and learn!

Like I said in an earlier post. My full pulley set has been on for over 2 years with no issues except for the low voltage.

Don't know, I never really measured it. I can tell that now with my car all stock except for plug wires,3inch turboback exhaust, and the pulleys I get about 250 full tank all city driving.

I have been running the U/R pullies(4) for the past 3 years and they work awsome, I also have one amp and a big(1100ca) battery in the trunk. never had any problems, the turbo spools up quicker...
