Sealant on Cam Gears

Does the Camshaft end caps closest to the cam gears need any sealant?

You don't have to put any sealant!
I've have not put sealant to any build we've done...

Sealant for what? The camseals, no. The rocker cover, yes as shown in the FSM.

I just read my title, I put it all wrong. So no sealant around the seal but what is a rocker cover? You mean valve cover?

Yes, he's referring to the valve cover.

I use this stuff on everything. I put it all the way around the VC and the puck on the DSM. Works perfect every time, and no mess like that RTV crap.

The only place you need any sealant on the VC at all is a very small amount in the corners of each "hump", and at the points on each end of the half-moon where it meets the rubber gasket (as per the FSM as Steve mentioned). Any more than that just makes a big unnecessary mess.

Just be sure to go back and re-tighten the VC bolts a few times (in sequence) as the gasket gets heat-cycled, and don't over-torque the bolts!

Be very stingy when you use silicone anywhere.
