Opinion on a 1g I found

So I saw this add today, just wanted some opinions. Owner says it turns over and the fuel pump turns on. Wasn't sure which forum to post this in.

"car has 115.000 miles on it.
auto trans rebuilt with less than 3000 miles on it
6 bolt motor. new headgasket and timing belt
brand new alternator and belt
4 bolt rear end
14b turbo
450cc injectors
91+manual ecu
2g mani and o2 housing
3 in turbo back apexi exhaust

car does not drive will need motor work done. was driving home last night and the car shut off on me and wuld not start back up. Either the balance shaft belt went or the oil pump.

i am looking for 1000 firm on whole car. Car is clean rust free. clean title."

Is it AWD or FWD? I wouldn't give him 1000 bucks for it. Especially if FWD. I bought my FWD for 1000 bucks and it's in great shape.

If awd I would offer him $750 if fwd, personally I wouldn't bother but that's just me.

I would check it out before even thinking about it. Why does he think its the balance shaft or oil pump? Look on whats been done to it before? Maintenance done?

Since when do FWD's have rear ends. It's clearly and AWD.

OP, what are you plans with this car since already have a TSI? DD? Track? Resale? That would make a difference. I think it looks pretty clean for a complete AWD for $1000.

It would be mostly a DD, that I would build up when I can.

My bad, guess I didn't realize the 4 bolt rear end part when I read it. Go check it out and see what you think. If it is a balance belt or something easy 1k wouldn't be bad. Any extensive work needs to be done, I'd offer him a lower amount.

It would be mostly a DD, that I would build up when I can.

Looks like a pretty good deal, if you don't mind getting dirty fixing it. I would do a compression check first though.

I was talking to him about it but he said if he doesn't sell it tonight he's going to part it out. I'm a little over an hour away without a way to tow it if i decided to buy it. dang

If you can get it for the 700 I would jump on it.... I would be worried about head damage though... If the balance shaft belt went it may have caused the timing belt to jump time and that would explain why it wouldn't start again and then your probably looking at head work and who knows what else.

yeah thats what I was worried about. And if I can't test drive it, there's a chance the trans could be bad.

I agree never heard of a 4 bolt rearend. Also for 1000 it seems worth it. I paid 800 for mine and put 1500 into it just for needed parts, butI enjoy wrenchingso its a habbit to buy cars with issues.

Great buy to the buyer, excellent canidate for a motor thats been built over this winter.

Its an auto, but for a dd thats not that bad, but its a decent deal other than its not running right, and may need a motor

It looks like an okay deal for a 4 bolt rear end auto.

I would get it.

4 bolt + auto = win. You dont have to deal with stiff ass clutches streeting it, and you dont have to worry about breaking drivetrain components racing it.
