only have 3/4/5/r

I recently purchased a used 91 awd trans. Upon installation the tranny would only go into 3/4/5/r. I removed the cables and the tranny does go into 1-5 and r manually. The car is a 91 awd talon and it does have the 91 shifter base. tranny code w5m332nqbm. It does have a 23 spline output shaft so everything leads to it being a 91 tranny. The only difference is that the cables have two adjustment points(one on each cable) both under the shifter. are these cables from a 90 model or are they ok? any help would be great

The 90 trans has much shorter arms at the shift shafts. I would swap them over from your old 90 trans to your new one. You can try playing with the adjustments, but I don't think they move far enough to allow proper engagement of all gears on a trans with longer arms at the shift shafts (like your 91). You can also replace your 90 cables with 92 units too if you would rather do that.

I ended up swapping out the cables and found out real quick when i tried to go for a drive that there was no first gear it was as if it was non existent. 2nd gear works fine. so it will be going out to get built once i get money
