Dropped my car two inches about 3 or 4 months ago when it was up and running. I slam into corners hard sometimes, Only other suspension mod i have is tires, and strut bars. Well like a month before i put the 2 in drop zone lowering springs on my car i had gotten brand new" o.e.m" struts put on the front . ( Didnt think id be getting lowering springs at the time) Well the last time i drove it before i shut her down for engine work , the car was bouncing horribly all down the road, and was very unstable at any speed, and bottomed out and would bounce in the front excessively even over small bumps, and would keep bouncing once it gained mommentum. I couldnt stand it and before i get my car running again i was going to get them destroyed struts off my car, but i dont want to put some new onesand they go out in 3 or 4 months like the last "new" ones. What are some long lastings recommended performance struts that will work good with my car. ( I still have stock rims on, and no body kit if that helps any. Also im working on a budget and cant afford 5 or 600 dollar struts. )

I'm not familiar with "dropzone" lowering/performance springs but I know Eibach Sportlines which also drop the car about 2in. are proven to be good perfomance springs. In terms of struts, there's no way oem replacement struts will handle a 2in. drop. You have probably blown them by know, hence you are dissapointed with your ride quality. Even KYB-GR2's which are quality oem replacement struts are known not to perform to well with 2in. drop Eibach sportlines.
If you want to continue running you "dropzone" 2in. lowering springs I would suggest running Koni-Yellow's for the best ride quality and durability but since you don't want to spend $5-600, your only choice is KYB-AGX's adjustable struts. They're going for alittle over $300 shipped right now on ebay so go for it and good luck! :thumb:

P.S. People with the AGX/Sportline combo, please chime in, I'm also contemplating that setup.

... Yea my brand new oem struts took a crap in only 3 months of me having the 2 in drop zone springs on. I got these drop zones from ebay for only 60 dollars! There red, the springs themselves seem to be doing pretty good actually, i just didnt want any cheap struts but im definitly on a budget here also. So the only thing i really should be looking at is koni yellows like what was said in the last post? Honestly id be satisfied with just buying the front two, because im not so much worried of the back bottoming out just yet. Im going to go check the price on those and if anything else is recommended just chim in. thanks.

have any of you guys lowered your cars, and how much? and what struts are you using and what are your experiences with every day driving quality with your set ups? Do you think 2 in is too low for a dsm? It made the car look a whole lot cleaner, a lot less wheel gap, and before the struts went out i felt more planted to the road and less leaning in corners, and even more high stability, but worse ride quality over city streets and bump roads though.

i just saw two front koni yellows for 333 dollars on ebay but i still cant afford that right now. For a fact though the agx's will bottom out and the koni yellows are the best choice? Im thinking maybe i shouldve went with coilovers? Or would I have the same/ or worse problem that im having now?

The way the front of our cars work make it hard to get the car low and still have enough travel. I have AGX's all around with Ground Controls as I was on a budget, but now I have to buy Yellow's as I am unhappy with the AGX's and the amount of travel they allow. The one time I didn't follow my own advice and here I am doing it again.

"Why is there never enough time/money to do it right the first time, but there is always enough time/money to do it again."

If you go with coilovers you options will be just as limited. The only ones that will allow you to lower your car a decent amount and get good travel wiill be D2's or JIC's, that I know of.

yea our cars are already pretty low stock for some reason with how it sits, even though the front bumper isnt really that big. Thats why its hard to get a body kit on our cars with lowering because theyd be practically on the ground unless you have massive tires to keep the car raised a little. So thanks for the advice on the agx's , you make them sound horrible, they bottom out really bad huh. How low did you go? My plan right now is to go back to the place that installed my struts and act like i never lowered my car and the springs were always on there because i doubt they;d remember, and im going to say these are defect struts and see if i had a warrenty on them, and at least they may install brand new oem struts on there, and that will buy me 3 months (the time it took the old ones to go) to save up money to get the konis....

The AGX's are great if you don't mind the the stock ride height. They were not designed to be used on a lowered car like the Yellows are. I never actually check to see how low my car is I just adjusted it so it sat the way I liked. I woudl say about 1.5 inches if I had to guess.

As far as your plan I would say no. I can understand not having enough money and wanting to get things done, but trying to screw a shop is just stupid. Just man up and pay the price for a new set of Yellow's.

I have AGX's all around matched with B&G Springs. The front is nearly tucking tire and I'm definetely hitting bump stops. The car feels like its on blocks and I hate it, but I can't complain I bought it the way it is.

yea i dont have any money though, and i have no choice just dished 450 to finish my engine swap, and i still have to buy some sort of boost control, a datalogger, safc, and the struts, and right now my car is barely driveable because of the way its abnormally bouncing around, its horrible. But i hear what your saying though but going to have to do what i have to do. I think im going to try out the konis whenever i get some money saved, ( months from now...... ) but hopefully the advice given was correct.

Don't get the AGX's you will hate it as they will bottom out ALL the time. Koni yellow's are your only choice for a decent ride with a drop that big.

I have to disagree with you. When they're fresh, they don't bottom out. The downside is that they have to be set pretty stiff for that.

The "freshness" has little to do with it. Sure if you crank them up to full stiff they won't bottom out but that defeats the purpose of an adjutable strut if you can't use the full range of adjustment. They are just not designed for a lowered car. The body of the strut is simply to tall. My car is only slightly lowered and I only have around 2" on travel in the front. I have seen cars with Koni's almost tuck tire and have around the same amount of travel as mine does now. While the Koni is more expensive is it the only good choice for a lowered 1G that wants a decent ride like I said above.

So.. just to make it clear, will there be more travel for the struts up front if you use Koni yellows? From looking at instructions on how to install them (hacking the stock strut cartridge), it seems that the travel will still be the same. I had AGXs and Eibach Sportlines, and the ride was terrible. I'm saving money for D2s, but if the Konis allow for more travel in the front, I might just get those.

The D2's will give you more travel than a Koni because of the design of the coilover itself. They are two different items and you can't really compare them directly. One is just a strut insert and the body of the insert determines the amount of travel. The other is full coilover that can actually move the entire strut body with in the perch for lowering.

My comparison was from the Koni to the AGX.

Actually, I was comparing using Konis to AGXs (and stock struts). It looks like using Konis will provide the same amount of travel as AGXs or stock struts. I meant that if the Konis do provide enough travel (compared to AGXs) for a drop of around 2", I might just get Koni inserts. Hope this clears my previous post.
