Ahh ok, got it.

If this is necessary, then why hasn't it really been brought up in the past, and why aren't they just provided when people buy "kits", grrrrrr I'm pretty upset

It has been brought up in the past, just not in the n/t forum. It has been in the 4g63 forums for a while. Here is a pretty good thread on it currently. Its not about the 420, but it is a universal thread for all garrett chra turbo users. Read it and you will find that it applies to you also.

wow...quite useful information. I hope it's not too late for my turbo because it already is for the manifold/downpipe :(

Oh yeah, still no response from Mike and no luck contacting him via phone.

Finally got an email reply from Mike this morning...

All he talked about though was the oil leak on my turbo, not once did he even mention the whole situation with my manifold/downpipe WTF I replied and told him how I believe the leak is causes due to over pressure and no oil restrictor, but that it was the least of my concerns at the moment. I need my new manifold and downpipe ASAP :toobad:

I hear ya. That looks like a weak manifold you had. I can try to contact someone who should still be selling a 420a manifold. I'll let you know what comes up. If he has it, I'll be sure to check the price over with you before it's final. It's log style externally wastegated... :thumb:

I'm not paying for anything...

Mike already owed me a new manifold and downpipe from our original deal because the setup I had was "test-fit". It ended up working out well, and so the new stuff was put on hold because I wanted to go external wastegate with a slightly bigger turbo. He never got back to me about it, and now I NEED the stuff, and can't even sell what I have now because this happened. Has anyone managed to get a hold of him by phone? I gave him my number in the reply I sent this morning, but still no response at all.

Finally got a response... :spam:

I'm sorry i never looked at the pics you sent I thought they were of the oil system so i didn;t take the time. I had no idea the manifold did that.

first off for the oil system you want about 40 psi of oil pressure. if you haev more then that then you'll definately want to use an oil restrictor. 90% of eclipses do not require one. but with a built engine sometimes the change of compression and other mods can increase the oil pressure.

Right now I am in quite a predicament. My welder was moving to a new space and the owners backed out on the lease. So we are trying to setup all of his equipment here. But its going to be next week by the very earliest that he'll be ready to make anything. I really don;t know how the manifold would even do that. We started making them this way because it made them rock solid. We even tested them under high stress on a press with a blow torch and could not get them to break. But stainless can be a wierd metal sometimes and I appologize. The best thing I can really offer is that if you can send that one back to me I can get it fixed ASAP ans get it back to you.
Well I can’t send the manifold in to you because I’m actually selling my current setup to a friend. I was under the impression that you still owed me a new manifold and downpipe from our original arrangement, and that you would be able to finally provide those to me. From everything I’ve read and what my buddies have told me, my design is definitely different than theirs because it was the prototype so to speak. With the money I get from my friend, I will be buying a T3/T4 upgrade…this way the new manifold you send me can be flanged for external wastegate as well, and the downpipe made for the 5 bolt outlet instead of the 3 bolt discharge on the regular T3. So you’re telling me that you don’t have any currently made up, and it would take at least another week before fabrication could even start? Is there not any way that you could try calling me about this? I’m not able to reach your number from here in Alaska, but I’ve also had a few different friends from the forums try to call you for me as well…I hate sitting around waiting for emails when my car is just stuck in my driveway, it’s very very annoying…especially when I know it’s going to snow any day now and then my car is done for the year. Like I’ve said before…I haven’t had any problems with you in the past, so I’m hoping we can get this all worked out soon.

meh... :toobad:

This is really getting annoying, I love email tag

Eh, he really should give you a replacement in exchange for yours. My worry is, if this portion of the manifold failed, when fixed what will fail next. Besides, when you fix welding, it never quite looks the same, it looks repaired. In my small opinion, you didnt pay for repaired.

Its not like electronics where you can replace the diode that failed and never tell the difference.

I hope you at lease get a repaired or another manifold so you can get back to driving.

Terry

Oh, I'm not sending mine in to him for repair...I'm expecting nothing less than a brand new manifold and downpipe by the end of the week.

My new turbo and wastegate will be here any day now, somebody seriously needs to get a hold of Mike because I'm gonna be super pissed if I don't have my new manifold and downpipe by the end of the week.

Sorry, I;m trying to take care of too much at once. I am sorry that the manifold did that but we can easily repair it if sent back. I can't just eat a new manifold right now. They cost me too much. My welder guarantees them so if something comes back he eats the cost. I sent you that last one at below cost on me. You have helped me out a lot and still do in sending me sales so i am very willing to help you out however I can but I just can;t send a Brand New one for free. Also as far as the downpipe. We do not have any reliable way to setup a downpipe hre and then send it to you. We dropped that idea and truthfully we may stop selling the 420A kits very soon anyways because we just don;t sell enough anymore. There is just too much junk out there to compete with. Let me know what you think is fare on a new manifold and I will see what I can do for you.

oh yeah...I got my new turbo and wastegate yesterday, guess I won't be using them for awhile :toobad:

I Have been following this thread for a while, i'm real sorry to hear that response from him. I thought he would take care of you knowing that you helped greatly in his beginning stages. Too bad you didn't have it in writing that he was willing to give you a brand new mani during the early stages.

I do have it in email...we'll see if he replies to me before another week or so passes

I'm beyond upset in this whole situation, and all I can do is send emails.

Okay I tried calling him and all I got was a dial tone for a fax line. I went to the site, and apparently, there is no real number to contact them. They have the same fax and phone number, so whenever you try to reach them , the fax tone pops up. It seems the only way for contact is through E-Mail.

If you find an alternate number somewhere, let me know. I can call again. I just don't see a valid phone number ya know?

If the bank gives me my money today, I'll be investing in a treadstone manifold among some other goodies.

I'll be home in a month bishes...this road trip just might happen as soon as I pick up my car from the vehicle processing center in Orlando.

I wasn't at work today, but I'll check my email when I get there in the morning...

I was talking to treadstone about their manifolds, and they're supposedly back in stock now and ready to ship. They seem to be nice quality etc...only problem I had was that they told me the warranty would become void if I drilled/tapped for egt. I sent them an email asking if somehow they would do it before they shipped the manifold out then the warranty would still be in effect.

meh...

UPDATE...

treadstone said no, they will not drill/tap for egt :notgood:

EDIT: I hate my life

Drill/tapping will compromise the structual integrity of the manifold. I wouldn't warrent it either, especially if it weren't me(the company) doing it. That said, the manifold's are very stout, and as many 420a manifolds as there are tapped for EGT, I don't see why you would have a problem. I haven't heard any problems about even the regular steel manifolds cracking, much less the cast ones.

If you're that worried about it, tap the downpipe.
