OK, I'm in trouble, damned if I know how to piece this together :(!

I ordered '94 AWD calipers and '94 AWD pads, but I've no idea how to assemble these into something that works. In the past, when replacing pads, I've had the original install to guide replacement, but in this case, there is no original. Perhaps I was an idiot for not purchasing preloaded calipers with organic pads, but I kept the choice of pads separate. Here's a photo of what I'm looking at. (Left caliper.)

My impression is the pads are too small for the calipers and there's no clear way to anchor the one to the other. If I have to return anything for something different, now is definitely the time :(! If I simply need help in correctly putting the parts together, I beg your assistance.

The part numbers for the items shown are: Centric 141.46050 left caliper and Beck-Arnley 087-1446 semi-metallic front pads.

If I've screwed up and need to return items and order others, please help identify the errors. I can't afford to end up stuck with items I can't use, and I would really like to end up with something that works. If the parts shown are actually fine, how do I put them together?

-Undo the 2 bolts that bolt the caliper from the bracket. You'll need to have these undone to get the bracket over the rotor anyway.

-Place the metal clips in the bag on the parts of the bracket with the little tabs sticking up.

-The pads will then sit on those metal clips. One facing each way with the rotor in the middle. The little pads with the metal tab goes on the back side. I can't remember if this goes in so it's at the top or bottom. (Edit: It goes on the trailing edge. So it goes in at the bottom on the fronts.)

-Caliper gets mounted with the bleeder nipple up.

Is that enough detail?

Edit: If not, this is a pretty decent guide. http://www.edmunds.com/how-to/how-to-change-your-brake-pads.html

Thanks bro,

Immediate observation is I didn't properly pair the pads, that's now corrected (per the photo). Per your input, the pad with the projecting tab goes on the trailing edge, which I think translates into the front pad position, correct me if I'm wrong. I'll investigate the clips more closely tomorrow, but at least you didn't indicate a caliper/pad mismatch, so at the worst it's hopeful. I'll be back and again, thanks :)!

The clips just fit on the top and bottom of the mount bracket. When you take your old caliper off you will see where they go. It is basically a shim between the caliper bracket and brake pad.

Problem is the original calipers didn't use those clips, only small end-of-pad-backing-plate glider clips to facilitate compression/release pad movement. That's why I'm finding it difficult to make the translation, it's just not the same as OE.

In any case, thanks and I'll revisit it tomorrow :)!

By the way, guess I should throw it out there, where does that installation kit bolt go?

This is a fwd clip, and 91-92 awd clip which your old setup should have

This is the 93+ awd clip which your new setup uses

They are pretty similar just slightly different, as i said the old single piston setup should fit together just like this one does as far as the clips go.

Unfortunately, I don't recall it looking at all like that, in fact, despite a couple front brake pad changes and a rebuilt caliper change, that appears foreign. I'll investigate more tomorrow and perhaps the picture will clarify (maybe it's just my faulty memory) -- stay tuned :)!

Well, well! Thanks to you guys, it all came together :)! Guess it's one of those things that if you just look at it the right way, it all makes sense.

My OE brakes have individual clips for each end of each pad. It's like cut off the top third of Bryan's above pictured inverted U, and what's left are the clips.

OK, now that I know how to assemble these things, it's time to paint the calipers :).

The bolt is for the brake line. It's a banjo bolt.
Thanks! Since my lines are screw in, guess I won't be needing it. Seems like a banjo fitting would probably be good, then you're not at the mercy of how the threads tighten for laying out the lines.

You got the pads reversed.

Unless it doesn't matter what side the squealer is on?

Yeah, the pad with the squealer needs to go on the inside.
I see those pads are mirror imaged, so if that tab is supposed to be at the inside trailing edge, then I installed the right side pad into the left side caliper. Easy to fix, especially as it's back apart now for painting. Thanks for pointing that out :)!

New calipers loaded and ready to install :)!

Use high temperature silicon lube for the slider bolts. Available in any car parts store.
Good job. Did you put some grease on the pins inside the dust boots?
Oops, I'm used to rebuilt calipers being pre-lubed and so haven't had to in the past.

=====================NEXT DAY=========================

Just checked and they're definitely pre-lubed.
