Oil sprocket not lined up but shank goes into balance shaft hole?

Okay so im doing my timing belt and putting all new pullys in. As I get everything lined up to there timing marks and try to stick the shank/ screwdriver 60mm into the balance shaft hole on the back of the block it doesnt go in..:hmm: So i had it in a little bit and moved the oil pump sprocket with until it went all the way in the hole :aha:. And when I looked the sprocket when I got out from underneath the car it was way off its timing mark?? I still have my balance shaft BTW. Any helpful suggestions??:hmm:

You will have to rotate the oil pump sprocket multiple times to get the mark lined up and the shaft in the correct position. That's the point of the inspection hole, to make sure the marks and the shaft are both lined up.
 
I was just sticking it in there to see if everything was lined up properly like the tutorial on youtube says too. So do I just keep spinning the oil sprocket until it lines up and I can fit the shank in the balance shaft hole?
 
The oil pump gears could be out of time inside the pump also. There is a specific way that they have to be set for it to work properly.
 
Simply rotate the mark on the oil pump sprocket until it is pointing straight up, and let it go. If the sprocket rotates towards (counterclockwise) the timing mark on the engine, the oil pump sprocket is aligned correctly. If it rotates away (clockwise) from the mark, spin the sprocket a full turn and test again, and it should properly rotate towards the mark now. Now line the mark on the sprocket back up with the mark on the engine. This avoids having to remove the rear access bolt entirely. Has too be done with timing belt off.

Assuming that the internal timing of the oil pump isn't messed up, the question becomes can you move the oil pump sprocket to line up while the screwdriver is in their and if not, try rotating the sprocket one turn until you can. If after 6 turns you can't find a spot where the marks line up and get the screwdriver in you'll have to look at the timing of the pump.
 
Okay thanks guys all I had to do was rotate it a couple time to get it lined up with the screwdriver able to go in the balance shaft hole. How do I go about tightening the timing belt pully without the special tool?
 
Set the time on the sprocket, then insert screwdriver. If screw driver does not go in all the way give the sprocket another turn.

I try to hold it in place with a long screw driver. But is better to use the tool.I think is selling on ebay for about 60$, all 3 require by the manual.
 
I say get rid of the bs and as far as the timing tension tool goes Ive always used a pair of long 90 degree needle nose plyers to stick in the two holes on the bearing and turn it into position making sure the belt has good tension then tighten the bolt .
 
Yeah thats a good idea. Is the balance shaft delete hard to do? Doesnt it create metal shavings within the block?
