Hey guys I have a 97 gsx its mostly stock and im getting oil splashing up on the hood right above the cam gears. It only seems to happen under boost is this a common problem or do yiu guys have any knowledge on what this could be??? All help is appreciated.

No I recently bought the car and it was off. ... You think Ishould get one and see if it splashes in the case?

I will as soon as I get home most of the oil is towards the rear alot gets on the plug wires where they meet going towards the coil and on all the vacum lines near the brake booster and master cylinder. It didnt look like anything was on the timing belt nor the cams.

Sorry I cleaned it up yesterday but thats where the oil is circled in red

Ok so I feel like a jack a** I did a test run and found it the valve cover is cracked

No I took it for a run and found a nice crack in the valve cover the guy before me must of over tighten the bolts... cam seals look good tho

Without taking the cam gears off you cant really get a GOOD look at the cam seals.. Also aside for the leaking vc, you could have a leak down from the front case which is leaking onto the timing belt and in turn slinging it to the hood. You'd have to take off the timing cover and look. When was the last time the timing belt was changed anyways, have an idea? Should probably address that anyways being that its getting coated in oil.

A good seal on the Oil filler cap is a must also even if you have a crack in the valve cover. When mine wouldn't seal good it would pool oil in the sparkplug recess area, but once I fixed that it quit....well almost, a little seep but nothing like before. Also your not blowing it out the dipstick are you? Another common area.
