I was driving to work this morning and noticed that when i downshift into 3rd gear from 4th and go around a turn, I noticed a burning oil smell.

I thought it was the other car on the road. So I continue and notice nothing when driving straight or in boost.

I take another turn, downshift into 3rd from 4th, take the turn and notice the same smell as well as white smoke in the car. Continue to drive and it goes away.

Any ideas?

each time you smelled the oil you down shifted first. try turning with out the down shift. and was it the same direction each time you turned? my thoughts are....

1. you might have a slight oil leak under pressure, higher RPM (from down shift) creates more oil pressure and it is dripping/spraying onto something hot while turning.

2. if it smells while turning without down shift i would think oil is puddled somewhere and is "rolling" onto something hot

3. either way it is going to be somewhere near the air box for the climate control or it would not be getting inside unless your windows are down of course. i would look on the drain for the turbo pretty common place to find a oil leak.

hope this helps some

Yea if you notice the smell without turning. Maybe it is that under high rpm there is a leak. Or that possibly under high rpm when you are under higher stress and heat you could be cooking some transmission fluid.

You could just have a leak that has nothing to do with downshifting and every time you slow down enoughh the wind cant blow it away. My buddy had the same deal with a coolant leak. Driving was fine and smoke free but once you slowed down enough the wind couldnt blow it all away and then you'd see the smoke. I would try looking for anykind of leak and fix any I found.

I made sure my dipstick was secure and fit properly.

I also replaced my PCV valve as I thought from the symptoms and only on right turns it could be the culprit. So far no oil smell or smoke, but I am waiting to see before making any sort of declaration.

check every gasket holding oil. valvecover, oil pan, turbo feed and drain at turbo and oil pan. also sounds like when you make a turn and are downshifting the mounts are moving in such a way that could be putting enough presseure on a loose bolt allowing gasket(s) to leak oil
