can u rebuild your own oil pump? also what is it that goes bad on oil pumps is it the gears? because dam the oil pump at the dealer is so dam much

Get a complete new front cover/pump assembly. Its not worth beeing stranded on the side of the road because your motor let go think about it. Its cheep insurance. The clearance between the gears gets greater with age causing a slight loss in oil pressure. Be smart and do it right replace the whole thing. You can get them from slowboy for less than the dealer. Make sure you pack the gears with assembly lube and vasoline before you install it.
