All oil sender threads are merged here.

going down the road today i noticed my oil pressure gauge was reading nothing or zero depending on how you look at it..on my stock gauge..

i immediatly pulled over to check my oil and found that it and the rest of my car was fine..its still running fine and everything so i came home to check vfaq.com and it said that my sensor could be the culprit..

so my question is there a website or link to a page that will show my hw to check my sensor??? and or replace what is needed to read my oil pressure... or shuold i just say #### it and get a aftermarket gauge right now because its more accurate anyways?..

yeah im new around here so go easy on me..but i didnt think this was a dumb question or anything so thats why i put it here..

The thread on the oil filter bracket is a 1/8 BSPT.
Most gauge senders are 1/8 NPT.
You can find an adapter at Mc Master Carr for way less than what Autometer sells their adapter for.
You can even get one that can handle up to 2900psi.
You need a 1/8 BSPT Male to 1/8 NPT Female adapter.

Thanks again strm trpr.

Yea, from what I'm reading now electronic seems the way to go. Just when I first started looking I only saw the full sweep, not the short sweep, and the full sweep is like 180 bucks. :notgood: . But now that I realize the short sweep is only 70 bucks, I'll go electronic. :thumb:

One other question, do the autometer c2 pyrometer gauges come with the probe as well?

I bought a 90 oil filter housing (picture is not mine), but it only has a socket for one of the sensors. I am assuming it's the bigger one. what is the other one?

Ok I got a 95' gst. i've search this but found nothing. what happened was that my stock oil pressure gauge does not work and when i looked under the hood the oil sending line that im guessing goes into the car is severed and just hanging.

i cant find the other end coming from the dash side. My question is where should i run a new wire to? Just make my own hole into the car and splice it into the correct wire? And if so what wire would that be? Thanks!!

Take the old wire and add a female connector onto it. Put it back ONTO the oil pressure sending unit and if your gauge works then you're golden...

Oohh, after reading that it was under the hood and not AT the sender....just keep looking man, it couldn't have gone far if its just "severed"

So when installing my aftermarket oil pressure sender I wanted to screw it in tight so it wouln't leak oil I even used some pluming tape. However I had no idea that the housing it screws into is plastic, so of course it cracked and eventually broke. Now unless that part is only $20 I cant replace it. How would I go about finding what that housing even is and how could I fix it without replacing it? Is it part of the oil pan? Thanks.

Where did you try to screw it into? Did you try to replace the stock sending unit with an aftermarket sending unit? I'm trying to get an idea of what exactly cracked.

Ya, take a photo of what you screwed it into. Because the stocker location is metal.

I do have a question in regards to using plumbers tape/RTV to seal it. The stock sender is connected to the gauge by single wire. As the pressure changes, the electrical resistance inside the sender varies and thus the gauge moves. Ineffect the line is a + voltage and is grounded by the sender depending on the pressure reading. So if plumbers tape is used or thick RTV, this could interfere or provide a horrible ground for the sender and thus throw off the Sender's readings to the gauge. Anyone have experience with this?

ok here's a picture of what i mean... see how the wire just ends? I need to know where it goes so i can run a new wire. Can someone please look and get an idea where it goes? thanks!

It connects to the sending unit, the brass colored object bellow the crank pulley. There is a piece on it that looks like a nail head sticking out. It connects to it there.
