oil overfill

I accidently put too much oil in my car. I know this isnt good but if i put a 1/4 quart extra in is it going to hurt my car? I was just wondering if i was going to have to drain some or if id be okay?

i would drain it out since it would only take a couple of minutes

pull the oil drain plug then replace it after about 1/2 qt comes out. Then check the oil level and if you have to add more, add more oil. It will be a little messy so have a couple towels around

sorry to sound like a newb but i dont usually do oil stuff..the only thing ive done is put in a new oil line and return line. Wheres the drain plug located?

bottom of the oil pan...its 14mm or it might be 17mm i forget...you might not even need to jack the car up. if that helps hook my reputation up

you dont have to jack the car up, just get something to catch the oil as it falls, i know in certain apt complexes or certain places this is illegal to drain fluids on the ground...
Its right on the back of the oil pan, and should be fairly easy to reach and take off.
( Just keep going through your tools till you get a ratchet that matches. )

For further info I do recall reading somewhere that dsms starve for oil and going a little bit over the line wouldnt hurt it ( especially on low pressure cars ), and ive done it before plenty of times, but im not saying to do it, and that wouldnt be anything you should guess about because too much oil could be bad for rings and etc.
Just drain it slightly like the other guys are saying.

yea just jack it up like he says ( especially if its lowered),
it would only take all but 3 more minutes,
but just for reference ive changed my oil on my 1g before without jacking it up,
( but that was when i was at stock ride height)
But im not a big guy either so just see whats easier for you....

To the poster, it's 17mm. I believe the thread is 14mmx1.5

Maybe that's why he was confused?
