I have Oil loss of about a quart per hundred and buildup around oil filter. Where is the leak?

It never leaves drips when parked or idling and does not burn oil as the plugs are perfect after 40K miles. However, the oil filter area and the AC compressor is covered with grime/fresh oil.

I am lazy and do not want to do the oil pump. Is there anything else in that lower area that could be resealed other than the oil pump below the timing belt?

check your oil filter mating surface for an old gasket ( O ring) from an old filter that didn't come off from a previous oild change if your build up is around the oil filter. you might have a "double o ring" situation.. it's a cheap and easy check..

If you have the liquid oil cooler check the stud that the oil filter screws on for looseness. If it's tight remove the stud and oil cooler and there will be a large o-ring between the cooler and housing. Replace the large o-ring.

also check adapter where the oil pressure sensor and oil feed tube plug in these can get knocked loose, my adapter had both problems.:( center bolt and oil pressure sensor were loose.
