oil leaks, blue smoke out exhuast...HELP!

whats up guys, i have a 90 tsi awd not a laser anymore, well anyway it has a comeplete rebuild with the eliminated balance shafts, mods include stock exhuast with gutted cat and a muffler, mbc, blocked off egr, gauges, and around 2000 miles on the motor.... heres the problem...

after driving the car for a couple weeks, blue smoke was coming out of the exhuast so we swapped the turbo which was the original 16000 mile turbo and put on a friend of mines 14b which was laying around his house....now the car still smokes, but the weird thing is ..it doesnt smoke that much when boosted but at traffic lights or idiling youll see a huge cloud of blue smoke out the back...also when started in the morning it doesnt smoke untill its driven... theres oil all over the bottom of the car...it looks like its coming out of the exhuast manifold. my friend stuck a compression checker in each cylinder and released the valve to see if any oil squirted out and none did, we also removied the oil return line and checked it and it was not clogged or anything...im waiting on a turbo rebuild kit but for some reason i dont think its the turbo...ive been reading and i aslo saw that maybe there is too much oil pressure to the turbo fromt he feed line?! ahhh helpp!!
 
have you checked or replaced your Purge Control Valve (PCV valve)... the first sign of that being plugged is blue smoke... most guys install a catch can breather (can buy them from road race engineering) http://www.roadraceengineering.com/eclengine.htm
its about 1/4 of the way down the page... that would be my first check... because i know those plug up often..and should be replaced frequently.. umm... yeah thats all i know really.. as you can see i am not a wiseman or a moderator.. hope i helped.
 
yeah i have a new pcv valve in it too..=\...it also has all new valves/seals. and rings and everything, im hoping its the turbo...but yet again theres oil everywhere or maybe i have 2 seperate problems...i dont know...but thanks for your help
 
Get a compression check done and get back to us with the numbers you pulled. If you're lucky, it'll just be the turbo seals.
 
damn. that would suck..i had 2 head jobs done already the 1st was to rebuild everything and the second was due to the timing belt being a tooth off...what would you lean towards turbo or valve seals? also if valve seals wouldnt it smoke all the time?
 
The problem with your situation is that you replaced a blown turbo with another used turbo which you can't be 100% sure is a good turbo, because of this, it's hard to determine if the seals are leaking. You can pull the exhaust manifold and see if you discover wet/unburnt oil at the flange. If so, with good compession numbers, it's almost certain that the seals are bad. Good luck.
 
well my dad rebuilt my original 14b with a rebuild kit he ordered out of nashville from turbo auto. it didnt smoke for about an hour untill it started again. i noticed while the car was idling that the oil return line was leaking and dripping...could this have anything to do with it smoking still....could all of the new valve seals or new rings went bad already? the motor has about 5k miles on it.
