if its in ALL 4 wells and there isnt a ton of oil in the valve cover (top part) i would bank on the valve cover gasket seals areound the plugs.

well i know the valve cover leaks a tiny bit but there is no oil in the spark plug wells, just a small pool in the drivers side corner twords the front of the top part of the valve cover. thanks for everyones replys and help. i went to autozone today and all they had where plastic oil caps. would one of those work or would i need to replace it with a metal one if that is the problem?

If there's no sign of oil leaking from the oil cap, then that won't be it. Have you checked to see if the valve cover bolts are loose? It could just be that. I'd get a big pool of oil the same way, and half the cover bolts were loose.

A bad pcv valve can also cause oil there.

just replaced the pcv valve i'll see if that makes a diffeance and i'll try to tighten down the valve cover a little bit. if not then i have another valve cover that i am getting powder coated and i'll replace the gasket when i put that on. thanks for all your help again.

I had the same problem. My valve cover was cracked so we sealed it with some sealent then it started up agian so Im going to change the gasket then weld the crack. Just an idea

If you guys want to knwo abotu cracked valve covers just ask the Korean...

BTW- I have a valve cover in perfect shape unpainted I will ship in the US for $50...

Is this common?

Anyways. I had my valves and everything redone (By a mechanic)

and I suppose he put on a new GASKET.

Anyways I started running my car a little harder in the last few days like bringing it to 7000 a few times,

how it looks like oil seeping through the cover where the gasket is.

I take it as it's still a good gasket.

I have this GASKET CEMENT stuff. I was wondering would it beok if I just put some of this GASKET CEMENT on and retighened the head if it would do the trick. Or should I buy a NEW Gasket?

Use some of that rtv gasket stuff thats what I used when i put my new gasket on just be careful when you take the valve cover off that you dont tear it.....new gasket sets are not cheap for these cars. O yea make sure your bolts are tight enought on the cover but NOT TO TIGHT.

you dont have to retighten the head if your valve cover is leaking...I would check all the bolts and make sure they are all around 2 ft. lbs. which is where they are supposed to be...very very little torque or YOU WILL BREAK THE VALVE COVER, I HAVE DONE IT BEFORE...actually my dad did it...haha he had to buy me a nice new one.

that cement stuff might be OK...but I think the new gasket is less than 20 bucks...just buy it and put a new one in...really easy and will better in the long run.

Well, I noticed a small amount of oil around one of my bolts. Not much at all but its the second time it's happened. Do I just need to replace the valve cover gasket. If so, are Fel-Pro gaskets any good?

sounds like your oil cap my be no good pick a new one up there like 15 or so at your local dealer, the rubber in the oil cap is prob. hard and no sealing i had that problem and picked up a cap and poof all fixed
Good luck

I don't think rob quite understood what you were saying....... Yes, i'd say your problem would be solved by a new valve cover gasket. Thats a strange problem, but a new gasket should solve it. If not then go ahead and try, a uhh.... new oil cap.... that sounds like.... a good idea:confused:

Peace

Dont know whats up with this problem, there is oil sitting on top of my valve cover, to the right of where my oil cap is, i checked my PCV valve and its not stuck closed unless i could be missing something about that, that im not noticing, all i did was blow through it and it was fine, im running 14 pounds of boost with stock BOV, Stock IC Piping (Not for long cause i won the dave brode UICP for best tech article :) ) its just stumping me, kinda sucks to open up the hood and show someone and have oil sitting on top of my engine. any ideas? thanks...

I have the same problem right now when i rebuilt my engine i tighented the bolts a bit too tight and put some hirline cracks in it I just put like a crap load of rtv

When I took off the plastic on top of the valve cover, i noticed that there was oil in the front and corners. i cleaned it and drove it around for the day, and it appears again. theres also oil on the two main bolts on the front of the valve cover. what could be the problem?

You either need to replace the gasket in the spark plug area or you have hair line cracks on the valve cover. Jb weld(correct name?) worked for me on the hair line crack.
