common DSM problem right there, especially when you turn up the boost a little bit. Anyway, the rubber on the dipstick tends to dryrot. Time to go buy a new dipstick

replace the PCV valve, it looks like excessive oil vapor pressure is causing ALL your problems mentioned-, and don't screw it in too far, it's a friction fit type screw in, valve cover breaks easy, ask me how I know------gregorio

My Valve cover is leaking oil over by the number 4 plug, and i checkedmy plugs and #2 has oil all up in it and im idleing at 800, any idea what the problem could be?

if the whoel thing is oily (where the plugs are) its your oil fill cap... 11.00 for a new one at the dealer and no more oil... if not shell out 20.00 for a VCG... shouldnt take more than 10-15 mins to do

The valve cover gasket does not come with the spark plug tube seals. They are the problem if there is no oil on the top of the cover but IS in the tube itself with the plug. It's not just a matter of taking off the old one and putting in a new valve cover gasket either. RTV (a type of sealant) must be used as well. If you're going to do this repair get the parts and hit me up with a PM.

The valve covers are prone to crack so be sure to check for any hairline cracks near the bolt "bosses". Also remember to hand tighten the bolts when you re-install.

I had two VCs go (one was dealors fault) due to over-tightening of those bolts :(

Also.. get the whole OEM VC gasket kit (gasket, spark plug seals and that half circle plug on the pass-side). Check Conecelli out.. they always stock these and have great price/service.

well my head gasket just blew this past weekend so next weekend I will be replacing it. I just had a quick question I had to drive it a little ways after it blew but it didnt overheat. The thing is there was a ton of oil on my valve cover, I usually have a little, but this was quite a bit more just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what caused it.

the plastic oil cap sometimes leaks on me. on vfaq.com it tells you some reason on why a dipstick can pop out. hope that helps

One of your valve cover bolts may be stripped out. Don't quote me, but I've heard that can cause a small leak. Worth a check :thumb:

When you blow a HG, you can create excess crankcase pressure, which will force oil out of any orfice it can find.

That said, you still must have a hole somewhere. Even a new oil cap can leak, especially with more pressure. Maybe the VC is cracked? Maybe one of the gaskets is gone? There are a lot of things it could be...

i had that when i first took my engine accessories apart, i have no idea why it got there, but i cleaned it off and painted my valve cover, along with the spark plug cover, and i haven't had any problems with more oil there yet, but now my stupid oil dipstick wont stay tight, and splashes oil on the underside of the hood and it's beginning to make me

Possible Reasons:

1. Someone spilt oil in there when changing the oil.
2. You have a crack some where in your valve cover.
3. A gasket (probably oil cap) is blown, or getting there.

If it's 2 or 3 you'll probably notice it after you do some sustained high rpms, when the oil pressure gets high enough and can't get out fast enough.

Also if it's 2 or 3 your spark plugs and wires will eventually get ruined.

Laters.

I changed my spark plugs today and found that i had a small pool of oil underneith the cover in the middle of my valve cover. can anyone tell me what the problem may be and how to fix it?

Could be the valve cover or spark plug well gaskets. Also could be a crack in your valve cover. Look where the oil was, and see if you can see a crack. If it's small, you can use some JB Weld to seal it up. If that doesn't work, try changing the valve cover/half moon/spark plug well gaskets.

MachV sells oil cap gaskets if that is what it ends up being, but minimum order amount is $10 so you'll have to order 5. I did this, and have the others still laying around, I'll send you one for nothing if you need it.

Its your oil cap. I had the same problem since I got my car in December. My stock oil cap would leak terribly. I just went to autozone and got a metallic one with a good gasket on it and it worked perfectly. No more oil spilling out.
