should i look for a piece of hose with a certain kind of psi strength?

That hose is a chronic troublespot in these cars.

I always replace it, on every dsm I buy!

I usually go to the dealer and get this hose, and the other one as well.

I like to use the factory hoses, because I can reuse the spring clamps on the hoses. I've never had one of those leak, if you match the hose and clamp together. Because they're spring loaded, they apply a constant pressure to the hose over the life of the pieces.

If you use a worm drive clamp there, it has much greater size/mass, and will pick up and transfer much more heat to the hose from the exhaust. And, it will inevitably need to be tightened up periodically as the hose cold flows out from under it.

If you use factory parts in the cooling system, you can pretty much forget about having any issues for at least five years, imho. I usually just bite the bullet and get all new o.e. hoses at the beginning. It's a lot of coin, but it's also alot of piece of mind. The chain store hoses seem to go away like three years later. (again, imho) One burstified hose can cost you a motor, or at least the headgasket.

Also, while you're at the dealer, please pick up a heat exchanger o-ring, and an oil filter. While you have the cooling system drained, it's cake to pull the oil filter, pull the long bolt that holds the oil filter on, pull the heat exchanger, and replace that o-ring. On a cold start, that o-ring can see some really high pressures, (especially on motors with the balance shafts removed!!), and when the o-ring bursts/leaks, it can cost you the motor.

Good luck! I think you're on the right track. If you catch cooling system issues before they become problems, you'll get much better service from your dsm. :thumb:

I agree with toybreaker. Use the factory hoses. They already have the correct bend in them. Some of the hoses have a pretty good bend in them. Using universal hoses you get at part stores could result in it kinking.

Using a vin# from a 1991 GSX in CAPS, the part numbers are as follows:

engine oil cooler hose - MD167360 - fairly short hose that goes to another hard line that eventually connects to the thermostat housing.

engine oil cooler hose - MD163197 - other end connects to the water pipe.

spring clamps - MS660243

These are Mitsubishi parts. They should work with your Laser, however, double check before ordering.
