Here we go again, possibly another bad purchase. The moderators should change my status from proven member to bad purchase wiseguy.
OK, heres the story on this oil cooler. 16 row Greddy Trust cooler 9"x11"x2" recommended for a Toyota Supra, found on ebay, was previously on a 240SX, used but not on the road (I believe it, the fins are almost all perfect), was removed and sold because it interfered with the 240SX's intercooler piping. $534 new, picked it up for $100. They had pictures of this before I bought it, but they failed to mention that one of the connections was warped inward.
Cleaned it out and did a temporary leak check by holding one end closed with my thumb, blowing into the other and spraying it down with soapy water. No leaks found. I'm going to hook up the air compressor and close the other end with a 10AN cap so I can do a proper leak check.
For location I was thinking in front of the radiator. I could mount it at a angle on the drivers side but I dont want to lose any cooling efficency.
It has 10AN connections, my soon to be installed oil cooler engine bracket has 8AN fittings. I found some 10AN female to 8AN male reducers that I could put on the cooler but am worried about oil pressure loss. I plan to remove my balance shafts soon so maybe this will compensate.
Not worried about overcooling, my oil cooler bracket has a built in oil temp thermostat that opens only when oil is hot.
I also hit me that oil changes just got more expensive! This cooler probably holds a quart or more!
What do you guys think?
