Oil Consumption

I am losing about a quart. My car is not smoking during idle or acceleration and i do not see any oil leaks in the engine bay. Is this normal? I use 10W-30 regular oil by the way. Thank You

How long in between your oil changes? Losing a quart between 3-5k miles is definitely not normal. Do you have any idea where your oil is going? Is there any oil in your coolant? If there is, look into headgasket.

There isnt any oil in the coolant or anywhere in the engine bay. My car also does not smoke at all. This is really confusing to me....any help would be great.

Its got to be going somewhere. If you've had your car smogged lately, post the results.

Otherwise, alot of people dont think about the engine leaking at the rear facing side of the block. Take a look with a flashlight. Also, check your intake for oil deposits.

eh your fine, check for oil leaks and all that crap.

but let me tell you...my car consumes a lil also.

are cars take 4.5 quarts

when i do my oilchange i only put in 4 becuase it brings the level pefectly to the full line on the dip stick.

after driving for a week i checked the level and it went down half a quart, so i add half a quart(bringing my car to the recomended amount ) 4.5

(the oil thins out)
also minute amounts are lost into the intake system...it builds up in your intercooler and intake pipes. Some comes threw into the turbo and is vaporized basicly. so yes your car will consume oil. this is normal on a turbo car. (this is why catch cans were invented)

after about 2 thousand miles its down again. so if i feel i should add more then i do.

my car leaks no oil, burns no oil. I park in a garage every night, no spots.

My head was just rebuilt with all the gaskets. Obv
my coolent is obv very clean....no smoke what so ever comes from my exhaust.

your fine. its normal, just make sure you check for leaks.

You may be lossing a bit much due to the use of regular oil but it isnt to bad our cars do loss oil like Drift SM said that is fine. They should loss about 1/2's of a quart regular oil with in about 3000 miles dont worry and get into a tizzy over it. my gs-t uses about 3/4's of a quart of mobil 1 synthetc in about 2,500 miles and checks all ok. but how ever you could be like my civic it uses 1 quart to 350 miles now that is using oil. but anyway i am changing the rings to solve that. good luck.

On my 92 TSI I had many of the same symptoms of oil consumption but couldn't find where it was going. It wasn't until I did a rebuild on it that I noticed a few of the valve guides were damaged and that was the culprit. Couldn't tell you if this might be your problem, but wanted to share my experience to at least give you head's up about it.
