It looks like Oil is leaking from my Exhaust Manifold Gasket.. Is that even possible or is it coming for someplace else? My car overheated not to long ago and the gasket could have warped. Thoughts? Ideas? I hope its my gasket.. Thats a quick $30 fix.. But then again... its a DSM:rolleyes:

Any ideas?

Shane

Valve stem seals is your best bet, however, make sure its not dripping down from you valve cover gasket 1st

Just unbolt the exhast manifold and take a look around the head/turbo to get a better idea of where its leaking

You most likely need to replace the manifold gasket. It has probably developed a leak and it will appear as oil or a dark greasy residue. As long as you know it's not your valve cover gasket leaking down there then I say slap a new manifold gasket on and you should be set.

Its not the valve cover. That would be obvious.. But i can watch the oil leak.. Its a real rusty, gross stream.. Its getting all over the place.. I just want to find the problem fast before oil gets into places it doesn't belong..

Your pretty much going to wanna take off the manifold and have a look...

But if you can actually see it leaking, then im betting its your valve stem seals..

Fortunetly their $20
Unfortuently, the labor in replacing them is'a B**ch...

If you have a stream of oil coming out of the exhaust manifold gasket then I hate to tell you, but you already have oil where it doesn't belong. So you are saying with the engine running it is pouring out? Is this correct?

Oh its not pouring out.. But it is leaking. Engine still works and all.. But i can just seen were a drip or two is sliding down..

It looks like its coming from the exhaust manifold, then it slides down a vertical tube (dont know what it is).. Its on the bottom left hand side.

Just in the general area.. Hard to pinpoint where exactly its coming from.. But i saw some coming from the Exhaust Manifold.. Any info you can give me on check exactly where its coming from helps! Any other pictures needed i can take!

DEFINETLY THE VALVE COVER GASKET!!!!!! After you replace the valve cover gasket get 2 or 3 cans of brake cleaner and start spraying!!! drive around for a couple of days and post new pics...

Might it also be coming from the "oil feed" line bolt hole? It appears to be blocked off and it's possible that it was not sealed fully when blocked off. Just my opinion from the way it looks.

Use carb cleaner not brake cleaner.

Brake cleaner will dry things out and carb cleaner will lube things up as well as cleaning things. you dont want either going into the cam galleys but if carb cleaner would go inthere it would the lesser of two evils.

I think there are a couple of leaks you might have, but, the valve cover gasket is definetly an issue. the reason for posting more pics would be to show you where they all might be comming from after you have driven it.
May i ask why i would spray the break cleaner? Spray it where? Everywhere there is oil?
Yes EVERYWHERE there is oil. Try to start off with a "clean slate" so you an pinpoint any leaks
Use brake cleaner not carb cleaner . we have enough lubrication already :ohdamn:.... hence why we are typing to eachother.....
BTW: spray the areas with cleaner first to clean the area without getting any overspay into the motor, then change valve cover gasket, then spray again and drive car.

Valve cover gasket is relatively cheap and easy to replace isnt it?

So Break cleaner? Ok.. I hope its just the one leak.. I hate leaks..
