My crankshaft sprocket timing mark doesn't line up with my mark on the front cover at TDC. It's quite a few teeth off. How could this happen. I have JDM 6 bolt gvr4 motor.

The only time Ive seen that happen is when the timing belt sprocket plate (the one with the timing notch in it) was installed backwards. If you have it apart anyway switch it around and see if that helps.Spoolin TD04 said:Yes it was changed about 11k miles ago. But when I put the #1 cyl. to tdc w/o the timing belt on and have the cams and oil pump to tdc, the timing marks on the crank dont line up even though I have it at tdc. What could be the problem?

I guess I shouldve been a little clearer. I meant to check to see if the marks line up after switching the plate around.Newlogics said:Switching it around just to see what happens isn't the best idea. Even though it has been proven that doing that will not bend your valves. It' fairly easy to tell just by looking at sproket teeth imprints on the plate. The side with larger diameter imprints should be fasing B-shaft sproket. Another way to tell, is by looking at the flared out part of the plat (the center). It would be facing timing belt, while edges should be flared inward, towards B-shaft sporket.
Eiher way, if you put 11K miles on the car, I'm pretty sure that inverted timing plate is the problem. Car simply won't idle or rev when that plate is switched around.
Have you rotated the crank enough times to align marks? Are dowel pins on the cam sprokets facing up?
Exactly how many teeth are they off?
