So my friend from school is here and wanted me to post this... he wants to build a 2G 2.3L stroker like mine. We've been on the lookout for a used Eagle 4340 100mm crank due to his funding and have not been able to find one.

He has now decided he wants to go ahead and buy an OEM 2.4L crank out of a 98 Galant that is in a local salvage yard. Now me personally I would rather him use an Eagle crank but OEM has been proven time and time again to be strong on stroker builds so I guess it wont hurt if he bought the one from the salvage yard.

From you 2.3L Stroker guys, what is your input.

I personally do not own a 2.3 but the cranks are all similar. Generally you want to just make sure the journals don't have deep groves on them. Stock cranks come nitride coated and it adds a lot of durability to the crank itself. If need you could always send the crank to ffwd or another specialist and have it re-coated and then polish it back up. Still very capable of making plenty of power that your friend is looking for.

i just finished my 2.3 motor build and after 3 stock 100mm cranks i finally had enough and bought a eagle. every time i bought a stock used crank i would get it magnafluxed and they would tell me it had a hairline crack or even if it wasnt cracked one was tweaked so i could not use that. it was a lot of hassle and just did not work out for me i know people who use them with no problem i just was not so lucky. and if you do buy a used one definitely get it magnafluxed. and balanced. which were i live will cost you about 250.00 plus 200.00 for the crank which makes 450.00 your pretty close to a eagle just my 2 cents.

hope this helps a little

We can get one x-rayed and balanced for $120 even here. We live in a very large drag race community (I-57 dragstrip) so people are always competing for work that's why we get labor cheap around here.
