I am transfering my OEM rear glass to my new CF hatch:rocks:. Right now glass is prepped and ready to go. I will be using the following:

3M Urethane

and

Urethane Primer

I know to use the primer on the glass. However, do I use the primer on the CF hatch? CF hatch is new and clean/prepped. Looking to do this right the first time and haven't found any good answers.

Any window techs out there? :coy:

With the 3m products there is typically a primer for the glass and one for the "pinchweld" of the installation area. How did you prep the pinchweld of the hatch? I would run a red scuff pad over the pinchweld to make give it some texture for the urethane to bite into. You can use some taqpe to mask of that area so that you only scuff where you want too.

The primer that I have says for the glass and for anywhere bare metal is showing. I'm assuming that the urethane will bond well anywhere there is paint/clearcoat so I am a little hesitant to remove material.

Right now the pinchweld area on the CF hatch is new, I just made sure it was clean by wiping down with some cleaning agents (Simple Green) and some alcohol and allowing to dry..

i dont know if its too late but it will not stick to clear coat sand it. it is made to stick to primer or color but not clear and you can use it on the glass but moast companys use another product on the glass

yes u must apply primer to the hatch as well!! we do these all the time at our shop and you dont know how many people come to our shop and say that they tried to do it themselves and the glass just came off.. if you dont apply primer on the body its like if you paint a car without any prep work or primer.. it will look good for a while but then it will fall off.:thumb: and sorry i know its a really late reply LOL...
