Hey guys I have a serious question that I HAVE searched for but could not get a definate answer.

I recently got my OBX crank pulley, it did not come with any literature that stated new belt sizes. I emailed obx with this question. What size belts do I now need? They replied with " you can use your stock belts" This doesnt' seem right, although when we did UDP's on my brothers old mustang, the belt that they called for was too long, and the stock one worked just fine. Anyone have the obx pulley, that installed it themselves and knows which belt to use? Thanks guys.

i have they same pulley. try this belts.. Belts sizes Alternator #K040320 / P/S & AC #K050490. i bought them at auto zone.

The OBX Crank Pulley or any other lightweight crank pulley for that matter does help alot. It gives you a good power gain and it makes the car feel as if it is straining less when you get on it. I personally love mine and will make sure it is on every other car I ever get. :thumb:

Im going with the afx underdrive pulley from howellautomotive.com, it comes with the belts you need and is only $140. Plus it is supposed to make a pretty noticeable difference. Just my .02. But the belt sizes mentioned above should work for ya, good luck!

AMEN!

I got mine for 89.00 off of ebay. It's pretty nice, looks just like the AF/X pulley. It is supposed to free up 10-15 horse, probably more like 5-9 but every little bit helps.

What kind is difference between Unorthrodox and some Ebay pulleys??? Both are made from billet aluminum, both are CNC machined.. There is one difference btw.. price!.. 120usd vs 40usd.
I know that cheapest stuff from ebay is not very well.. not performance.. but in this point Why is 40 usd(Billet aluminum,CNC machined )pulley worse
Thanks

Careful, careful, E-bayers! Balance is the problem. Many of the cheap E-bay pulleys are not balanced properly. This is guaranteed to throw off the balance of your rotating crank and WILL cause problems. IMO go with the AFX from howell. It is what I used and it is proven over and over again. I run my engine up to 8k and have had no problems with beating up the crank. I can't speak for the unorthodox, but from what I have read, it seems to be of the same quality as the AFX. Do not get the E-bay cheapie! You will be sorry.

Holy reincarnated dead thread batman!!

But hey, since it's always a hot topic it's better to have it in as few threads as possible. Just to clarify here for the listening audience, the water pump is driven by the timing belt. The belt configuration should be altenator only, and then power steering pump and a/c (if applicable). This was probably just a typo but since it was brought back up today I figured I'd just make note of things.

Balance really is a big issue. Remember part of the purpose for the original pulley was to absorb rotational vibrations from the engine. Removing the factory damper WILL increase engine vibrations even though you may not feel it and as such EVENTUALLY will cause SOME bearing wear. That being said many people have run these undampened pullies with NO failures related to the pulley. BUT using an improperly balanced pulley will increase the wear and you may be one of the poor folks posting about the first engine failures directly related to an UDP.

Don't be that guy :thumb:

Just a related question. I am going to have a mechanic put a new timing belt in for me plus the 60k tune up etc. Would it be better for him to install a UDP since he is doing practicaly all the belts etc? thanks

Yes, have him put the UDP back on in place of the stock pulley, there should not be any extra charge unless he's a gimp and doesn't know how to install ANY pulley for this particular crank. Make sure he does NOT beat the pulley on with a hammer.
