OBX ebay parts do or dont

hi i just recently swapped a mazda for my new eclipse 2g. im lookin for a good intake manifold and i saw the obx on ebay iv looked through the forums here for a while now. and i cant find any info on these just wondering what i shoulld do buy one of the obx intakes . or use the stock one my eclipse is a rs but with turbo upgrade and i am having a stage 2 engine built by porters in the next month. so any help woulld be appreciated for any bolt ons that would help me acheive some horse power and make my engine look nice

when i had my GS i got one of the obx manifolds, hell of a thing to install i had no clearance and ended up hitting my firewall with a hammer to fit one of the sensors into the hole...if i knew that before i bought it i would of stayed with the stock manifold, thing looks nice when you pop the hood (nice and shiny) but thats about it

oh ok thanks glad i know that now. i dont mash anything wit a hammer another thing though since i am a newbie to dsm's i was wondering is the obx lsd's any good or should i stay away from obx all together i cant seem to find much research on there parts and where would be a good place to buy some nice lookin bolt ons

im planning on using the car for my show car/track car but i dont want the engine stock by all means. i just want to get the most performance as well ase have my engine stick out like no othersince there aint many dsm's in my area

Are you looking for bling? Then buy some chrome and the cheap look-alike SS braided hose sheathing.

Keep in mind most DSM enthusiasts are Function>Form and do not go after nice looking.

Those two things do not really go hand in hand. Do you have a turbo? Your profile says you do... but based on your questions you seem to be starting out with a bone stock setup.

well its far from stock porters perfomance is building me a custom engine. but my turbo has shaft play really bad and the guy i got the car from blew the rods out the bottom of the block ### he didnt .build the bottem end before he boosted it so thats why im gettin the engine built from porters . and there is a stock intercooler so i wanna upgrade that as well but im just not familiar with anything turbo and i was just curios about the obx parts on ebay. but i want to do so much more. but porters told me the engine there are building should hold about 400-500 hp but i not shure how to get that much power with ebay parts

sorry if my grammar is bad in certain parts. but yeah i was just curios and not shure im pretty much a noob to dsm's but. i have pretty good knowledge of cars but this is my first turbo setup and. i been trying to check out almost very thread on here about the 420a so i dont look too dumb and thanks the ss baraided lines and hoses area good idea thanks

no they said the block will hold that much if i put the money in it as of right now im just trying to get an idea . they are doing eagle rods, wiseco pistons ,and building the bottom end as well as port and polishing the head and putting in a good set of cams that they make im not lookin to drop no 20 grand i was just stating that the block was able to hold that much

another thing though theres no wastegate on the set up and im pretty shre im going to need a good bov and turbo for this built engine

Let me just clear a little bit up here. There is nothing wrong with quality parts that are bought on E-bay. But that's an important distinction. You can pick up a set of Eagle rods and JE piston's for a pretty good price on E-Bay. Nothing wrong with that. BUT if you are looking at an "E-Bay" turbo (as in some Chinese knock-off vs a new Garrett someone might be selling) with an "E-Bay" intercooler kit, you should look elsewhere. You'd be rolling the dice big time on those parts.

As for the OBX intake, yes it needs lots of "massaging" in order to use it, but its not all bad. Read through this write up (Steve MAY have already posted this in his onslaught of search links, LOL

As for the OBX LSD, I would not buy one because I did and it was nothing but low quality trouble. BUT, there is a company out there that has extra parts etc. that basically go through the LSD and fix all the problems and then sell it. They seem to be doing OK with that (you can search on neons.org if you are interested in the supplier of those). The LSD works great, except for its various leaking and poor machining problems

You may want to educate yourself on here with the makings of a turbo system. It seems that the previous owner would have been wise to do the same

Oh yeah, and you don't need 10k for a 400-500whp 420a (I did 567whp for much less), but you will need some time, patience and reading comprehension.

Please, please, please de-rice that car, the power aspect of the 420A you can find plenty of help with from those of us here with experience with them, but first you need to return that car to it's respectable form.

ok thanks wiseman like i said im new to the dsm world so i thought i better get some info from some people that know more about this than me that way i dont do anything stupid and porters is gunna be installing my engine so as long as they are goin to do it i might as well get the obx intake then . and as fo the 10k on the build for the 567 how long did it take u to acheive that power and is it hard to make that much power out of a 420a or is it fairly easy

How built is this engine going to be? Are you lowering your compression ratio to go for high boost on race fuel or are you upping your compression and going with an e85 tune? You are going to need a way to tune more than you are going to need the parts that need tuned. Otherwise, Dave is right. Kablooey!

I'm going to tell you like I tell all the rest of the FNG's: Come up with a goal. Look at my parts list. Add the two together. Mix well with my install write-up due out this weekend, tune to taste and viola! Don't half-ass anything or you will blow up your car. Ask anybody here who has gone turbo. I cheaped-out on my first turbo and it turned into a mosquito fogger, catch my drift?

Listen to CODE4 and stay away from OBX stuff for the most part. The LSD can be re-worked to perform just as well as a Quaife, but knowledge is required. If you want a properly working Intake Mani, look up all_motor_mike on here or Neons.org. It costs an arm and a leg, but is well worth it.

This platform is completely dependent upon how much care and proper planning you put into it. You go cheap, you get cheap. You spend your due diligence, it will be worth it.

this guy i know had a built h22b. He spent all this money on the engine than he went cheap and bought an obx intake manifold. As soon as he bolted it on the welds on the runners cracked by the flange. So i wouldnt buy obx unless you wanna spend the money twice. Buy parts that are worth the money and youll be fine. Its just if you buy cheap youll buy twice so its up to you on how much you wanna spend.

see im not too shure on the compression ratio yet i havent fully discussed it with porters yet they just give me a base price for a built stage 2 engine and he said we will go over the fine details when i come down to his shop and get everything in order but this car is gunna be my dd also during the summer to promote my car audio shop but i also want to be able to take it to the track and be able to hit some decent times

and ok for shure ill get a good intake first time then i dont wanna replace anyting twice if i dont have to thanks for all the info guys.glad to be part of the community just for the dumb qustions i ask thanks for the patience any other feedback on whats been posted is greatly appreciated

yeah i know spawned it was riced out pretty bad ill admit that but i guess im kinda a ricer at heart i like the body kit its got on it it looks pretty nice but i dont want to be a complete ricer by leavin the engine stock with all the body mods ya know u would ###### really rag on me if u saw it from a side view its got some pretty lame graphics on the side LOL

dont worry i will treat it like it should i am gunna rice the crap outa the interior though its what i do for a living i do custom panels and stuff like that with door pods so please be nice im putting i huge stereo in it for db drags

another thing whats an e85 tune i dont know what that is

Obx is really not that bad of a brand,when people are choosing between brands there always going to have there opinions I have some obx parts and some other brand parts and they all work great, so it comes down to personal prefrance.

well i appreciate all the feedback from everyone i new i picked the right place to ask all my noob queistions. and im just not shure what to do the engine from porters is gunna be a fully built bottom end with wiseco pistons and eagle rods the head is gunna be ported and polished . and they are su;pposta tune it right there at porters i only have a small side mount intercooler that came with the car im just kinda on a budget. tax money goes soo dam quick ya know my turbo has a ton of shaft play so i know im goin to need to get that rebuilt but i just wasnt for shure where to start after i got the engine built and put in any other advice is greatly appreciated and i thank again evryone for there input . and im planning on tryin to put down atleast 300hp out of this engine bt i know its goin to be time and money consuming by the time im done
