Is a '95 TSi OBD II? I was under the impression it was '96 and newer. Thanks for the help.

I could be wrong, but I believe OBD 2 was required on most 96 cars, but the standards were finalized by 1994. Therefore some manufacturers decided to implement it on new models before they really had to, especially with new models in 94 and 95.

Interesting. I always heard that OBDII started in 96. Learn something new everyday. :D

i think 96 is the year were EVERY car was obd2 but some were before then.

OK, I was informed from a friend that the 95's are OBD II, but they're not a complete OBD II system or something.

95 is like a bastard child, it had a proprietary obdII system in it without all the complete obdII checks. this is why when you get a 95 and live in an place iwth obdII testing you are treated like an obdI or older car because you don't have all those checks that are required.
Does this sound correct? I've got a friend in NC who wants my car badly (he has a 97 GSX) because mine is exempt from certain OBD laws and what not.

All cars had to be OBDII compliant starting in 1996. However prior to 1996 it was up to the manufacturer. DSMs started OBDII compliance in 1995, therefore your car (1995) is OBDII.

I just got this car 2 days ago and i havent looked under the car to find a second o2 sensor.
It has a port for an obd2 scanner but the car was made in august of 94 so this means it was an early model 2g. Also i am going to replace my tps but their different (autozone part numbers) for 95 and 96, the one for the 95 doesn't look anything like the one on my car. The 96 they don't have in stock. Any help would be much appreciated.

As far as I know, all 2g DSMs were OBDII compliant. Look under the hood on the passenger side...there should be a sticker on the underside of that hood and it will say OBDII on it.

All the 2g turbo TPS sensors I have seen are all the same, even the early '95s. I know for a fact places like autozone, napa, etc have weird parts numbers for our cars. I've been trying to order a driver's axle from Napa for my '95 and they say all they have are 96-99. Then they called back saying they had one and sent me a passenger side...the next day I got one for a '94. Dont' trust their numbers, trust what you know.

thanks for the info bro, i'll check under the hood for the obd2 text.
As you can tell from my sn i've been an MR-2 guy and am new to the 4g63.

I am looking into getting the Nology Laptop Dyno (i saw it in the newest edition of Import Tuner) and it says for OBDII applications only. I have a 1995 Gs and im not sure which I have?? Could anyone help me figure out if this will work....or suggest something that would work with my laptop so I could tune it myself?

Thanks....

are you sure?? i thought i read about the 95 and under are OBDI.....is there a way i can tell for sure.........

sorry to be a pain.....but i dont want to order this program if i cant use it.

Thanks....

95 is definately OBD 2. This discussion is at an end. :thumb:

^ ^ ^ Just to make sure the horse is dead- DSM and Volkswagen were the first to implement OBD-II, moving to it in the 1995 model year, one year before it was mandated.
It was only sensible to start the 2G makeover with an OBD that would last the life of the production run.

I tried searching for "1995 ECU OBD2" and got nothing. I'm just adding those key words to this post since it answered my question.

Some other 1995 Mitsubishi cars were not OBD2 compliant even though they had the connector under the dash. Interesting that the DSMs were built in the US and were compliant a year sooner.
